Finally got another game in. Once the bowl season is over I will probably be able to play more regularly. My pitching has been fantastic lately. I've been more selective on counts where I'm ahead of the hitter and have been able to get the cpu to chase more pitches than I normally do.

I beat the Diamondbacks 3-0 as Volquez pitched a great game. Ryan Raburn launched a changeup in the heart of the plate over the left field fence for a HR and remains pretty hot for me. I got caught stealing and picked off in the game but a hit and run did take me out of a double play situation and let me score my first run.

The final game of the 3 game series featured Harang against Webb. Harang pitched very well (as has my team the last week) and pitched 6 innings of 1 run baseball. He left with a 2-1 lead but the bullpen blew it in the 8th. I gave up a run and then in the 9th inning I should have probably brought in Cordero but 7-8-9 were up. First batter blasts a 414 HR on a mistake curveball. Then the second run was ridiculous. A throwing error at third and then a throwing error to second trying to get him left the runner at 3rd who scored on a sacrifice.

Man I've blown some games. And Brandon Phillips tweaked his shoulder and is out a few days. The guy just can't stay healthy and my bench will be short a bit. Both teams combined to hit only .200 on the series.

Big series coming up against the Cardinals but I'll most likely be without Brandon Phillips for all of it. After pitching so well, Johnny Cueto had his worst start of the year and didn't make it out of the 4th inning. Adding to his manager's blunders, Dusty Ryan left him in with 2 outs, bases loaded and the 7th hitter up in the lineup. The score was 4-1 Cards at the time and he gave up a 3 run double. Cueto had already thrown over 90 pitches and was gassed. I should have yanked him.

The Cards go on to win 8-3. My offense still isn't doing well at the moment. I really need Jay Bruce to get going and he has struggled all year. He had some nice at bats but not much to show for it other than hard line outs and a deep fly out to center. Raburn remains hot and had 3 hits but will probably have to sit next game due to fatigue. Votto is tired as well.

I had done a great job on Pujols up until this series. Then he had 3 hits on his first 3 at bats in game 1. And in game two, Micah Owings pitched very well allowing only 3 hits in 6 IP but two of those hits were Pujols HRs. One was just a pitch that really missed his mark and the other was on a fastball low and away. I intentionally walked him later in the game. In fact, I drew 3 walks and gave up 4 walks in this game.

But despite blowing quite a few games this year, I held strong despite missing out on some good opportunities and not hitting any HRs. This led to a 5-3 victory. St. Louis missed out on a few defensive opportunities as they played some backups and grounders just seemed to find the holes. I'll take it! About the only thing I could have been criticized for was allowing Micah Owings to hit in the bottom of the 6th, knowing I was going to pull him for the 7th. But he's a really good hitter - as good as my #8 guys and was 2 for 2 on the day. He's batting over .250 on the year and I figured I would save some subs for later. Note that I have kept Phillips active and he's still unavailable so my bench is short a guy. I love playing in the NL and using my bench.
