I should add that I hit no HRs although Thames sat. In fact the cpu suggested I sit Thames and Raburn due to fatigue. I'm already low on talent with Brandon Phillips and Encarnacion on the DL so I was trying to squeeze another game out of them. And since I'm playing in the AL and the Show decided to make DH a tiring position in '09, my guys are fatigued. To make matters worse, Jerry Hairston got hurt running the bases and dislocated his ankle and will be out for 6 months. He was pinching in at 2B. I've got no depth for the infield right now. Brandon Phillips has one more day on the DL and he has been sitting at ready in 1-6 days for a bit. I really hope he's ready to play soon.

The cpu hit one HR off me. It was their 9th batter and I was up 2-0 and just grooved one on a 3 ball count. He made me pay.

I've started another losing streak, losing a game 1-0 to the Indians. Cueto was really good on the mound although his control suffered at times. I walked 3 guys but only allowed 1 run through 6 innings. After 6 he had already thrown almost 100 pitches and was spent. The bullpen did their job but the offense sucked. No HRs, one double, one walk and 7 innings scattered throughout. Two GIDP hurt and I tried to sacrifice twice but kept missing with the bunt. I even stole another base. Carmona was tough on the mound for the Tribe.

Good news for the offense though! Brandon Phillips is off the DL and ready to go! Check the newspaper out to see that he has a 22 game hitting streak. Keppinger will sit his sorry .177 average on the bench (he had a throwing error this game too) as Raburn returns to 3B while Phillips adds to an offense that has been productive but has too many holes at times.

My pitching staff had improved to 29th in the league before this game so I think it will be even better.

Final game of the Cleveland series and the Reds win a very tight game 3-2. I swear this team is trying to give me a heart attack. I scored the go ahead run in the top of the 8th inning to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 8th I got a double play ball with the base loaded to get out of a jam. Then Brandon Phillips kept his hitting streak alive by hitting a slider over the heart of the plate for a HR. That gave me a 3-1 lead which evaporated quickly. I left Rhodes in to face a lefty and he got a walk. Then I bring in Cordero who promptly gives up a double which scores the runner. I'm up 3-2 and there is a guy on 2nd in the bottom of the 9th with nobody out. Then Cordero went to town. I struck out the next two and got the last batter to ground out to the pitcher. Nice.

The Reds start a series against the Diamondbacks and have two straight weeks of baseball before the All-Star Break. With Brandon Phillips back the offense has struggled in the first two games. The Reds got shutout 1-0 in the first game of the series. What a waste of a great pitching performance by Arroyo who held Arizona hitless through 4 IP. Some cheap hits too in the game hurt and horrible defensive controls from the game cost me big time. For some reason Votto doesn't want to field the ball. Take a look at these two plays. Votto just ignores the ball. On the second play, the "hit" he gave up cost me the run as they performed a successful suicide squeeze for the only run of the game.

Votto gaffs (bad controller mapping)

I don't think I've seen something this bad before. By the time I realized I didn't have control over him and tried to switch it was too late.

Anyways, a wasted pitching performance and a horrible hitting performance.

I kind of felt bad for Garland at the end of the last game. Votto struck out for the final out but a passed ball let him get on. They pulled him at that point so he didn't get the complete game.

Here are my June statistics. Pretty decent. My ERA was better than my overall ERA.
