I wish I would have saved the series stats but I think I only hit .246 for the series. And the Royals late game heroics boosted them in the last two games. I lost all three games by 1 freaking run. I'm 7 games under .500 now and the top 3 teams in my division are all 10 games above .500 or better. There were ZERO errors by either team in any game. Reds stats listed first then Royals below Game 1 - Lost 5-4 Hits 10-13 HR Thames, Guillen BB/KK 0/7, 2/7 Game 2 - Lost 3-2 Hits 8-11 No HRs BB/KK 1/4, 3/5 Game 3 - Lost 3-2 Hits 7-10 No HRs BB/KK 1/7, 2/3 Ugh. |

Returned to home for a series with the Braves. And I have now lost 4 in a row. My ace, Johnny Cueto went up against Tom Glavine and his wussy 82 to 86 mph fastball and I couldn't string many hits against him. I need to start keeping track of double plays because I hit into too many of them. I lost 6-2. It was 1-0 Atlanta going into the 7th and Cueto ran out of gas and got into trouble. I brought in Arthur Rhodes to face their lefties and I was singled to death. They scored 5 in the inning and I could never get close. Marcus Thames and Ryan Raburn both homered afterwards but too little too late. Raburn has hit well but a lot of balls get by him at third. Jerry Hairston at 2B is also terrible. Can't wait for Phillips to come back. Atlanta had 6 runs on 12 hits, 0 HRs, 2 walks and 6 Ks. I had 2 runs on 9 hits, 2 HRs, 1 walk and 5 Ks. I really hope I win soon. The papers would be calling for my head! |

I just lost again, this time 6-0 to the Braves. Couldn't do anything against Lowe. His freaking sinker drove me mad. It kept dropping out of the strike zone and it had enough speed difference from his fastball that I kept pulling them foul. Very ugly and frustrating game. 3 throwing errors between the two teams. Micah Owings falls to 1-8 on the year for me with an ERA of 5.58. One run they scored was bogus because of a button press that didn't register on a throw. The Braves got 10 hits to my measly 4. Francouer hit a 2 run HR early in the game on a hanging slider. Owings gave up 4 runs in the first 2 innings and I almost yanked him. But he settled down to pitch the next 4 innings of shutout ball. My bully gave up 2 more runs late. |

Reds win! Reds win! Reds win! They avoid the sweep at the hands of the Braves and avoid falling 10 games under .500. It was a good 6-5 victory. After falling behind 1-0 and not being able to score some runs despite some good hits the Reds remained patient. Javier Vasquez escaped out of some jams early on but couldn't escape the 5th. The Reds scored all 5 runs with 2 outs! Ramon Hernandez has come alive lately. Votto hit a 3 run HR. About freaking time. It was his only hit of the series as he was 0 for 10 at that point and finished 1 for 14. That gave the Reds a 5-1 lead. Of course Arroyo fell apart and promptly gave up 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning. But Rhodes came in after that. The Braves had a ton of lefties and he pitched two great innings. The Reds scratched across a winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning and Cordero got a clean save in the 9th to hold on to the win. Arroyo gets the win although he never struck out anybody. Here is the box score from the game, the series stats and the newspaper for my struggling Reds. ![]() ![]()
