After two frustrating losses, I had a very frustrating opening in game two to Oswalt and then the best comeback of my life! Harang pitched like a piece of crap. He lasted 4 2/3 innings giving up 8 runs and 14 hits. I was down 8-0 through 4 1/2. Then Houston made a couple of errors in the bottom of the 5th that should have gotten Oswalt out of the inning. Instead, the bases were loaded for Brandon Phillips who blasts a grand slam (salami trophy)! I score 5 runs to cut it to 8-5.

Jay Bruce and Votto are heating up with some home runs. We tie it up at 8-8 after 8 innings! Then in the 9th inning, I have guys on first and third with one out. I used pinch runners and hitters. My entire bench has been used up. Chris Dickerson (leadoff) gets up and hits a shallow fly to center. My runner on third tries to score on the tag but gets thrown out at the plate! It heads to extra innings.

Phillips leads off the bottom of the 10th with a double. Votto moves him over to third on a ground out to second. Now my pitcher is batting so I pinch hit with pitcher Micah Owings who can hit (he actually hit a walk off HR as a pinch hitter last week in real life). They bring the defense in and Owings hits a ball to SS. Phillips is dumb and tries to score and is easily gunned down at home. Two outs and a man on first now. Jay Bruce at the plate and has two strikes on him. He takes an outside fastball the opposite way down the line! The announcers are trying to coax it fair and it hits the foul pole! Two run, walk-off HR (another trophy). Reds win! Reds win!

I lost the final game to Houston 7-3. It was close at times but my bullpen let them pull away late and I stranded too many runners.

I then beat Milwaukee 11-8 in the first game of a new series. Some tough things though. Arroyo hurts a nail in the second inning and has to leave the game. This will hurt the bullpen depth but they come through fine. After giving up two runs to start the game, my offense cranks out 7 runs in the second inning. Votto hits his 11th home run and his last two bombs have been over 400 feet. Phillips extends his hitting streak to 21 games and is hitting .349 with 10 HRs himself. But he strains a hammy and is out 3-4 weeks! This will really hurt. I'm going to play Jerry Hairston there for now. He's listed as an OF but should be able to play anywhere. We'll see.

I was actually up 11-5 going into the bottom of the 9th where Edwin Encarnacion tried to give the game away with two consecutive throwing errors with two outs. They scored two unearned runs to make it 11-8 and I had two guys on base before I brought a tired Cordero in two get one out and the save. I've brought up another young starting pitcher for my bullpen and had to place Phillips on the DL. I didn't hit well the last time he got hurt.

Beat the Brewers 5-2 with Encarnacion almost blowing another 9th inning lead with a throwing error. But I couldn't finish off the sweep as Owings pitched poorly in an 8-3 loss.

Here are the monthly stats for my team in May. Not too bad as I went 16-12 but I'm still 4 games under .500.

The Cardinals are now in first place. I'm 8 games back which is a pretty good hole. But I've got St. Louis coming up in a 4 game set and then have a 3 game set against the Cubs. Arroyo is back but losing Phillips for 3-4 weeks is going to hurt.

Started off the Cardinals series and won 4-1 despite resting a couple guys. Arroyo pitched well and Cordero picked up the save. Votto blasted his 13th while Thames hit his 10th and I'm 24-27 but still 7 games out as the Cardinals fall to second place. I've done well against Pujols since I just pitch around him and he seems to swing at some bad pitches. I hope I didn't just jinx myself. It would be nice if I had a lefty in my rotation against this team.
