Ok, this is nothing new because I think nearly everyone expected this. But this launch is really a huge failure.
About a week ago i thougt i could play Darkfall on the 25th. I was sure, that there will be a few server crashes and an overall laggy performance. But this situation is much worse than I expected.
1. Only a few people were able to preorder.
2. You were only able to preorder with credit cards. (They aren't very common in Germany)
3. The download of this game was a cramp
4. There were massive problems with the patcher
5. You have to have 9 GB! free space on your Windows hard drive partition to install a small patch ( Finally I was able to install it after deleting a registry listing)
6. Forums and account pages are down
7. People who weren't able to "preorder" (like me) have to wait till tomorrow before new purchases will be possible
8. Bad informations politics

Hope it will get better in the future!

Tasos: "We’ll also look at opening up more sales by tomorrow."

Which means fat chance in hell there will be more sales anytime this week. If we're lucky they'll sell more sometime late next week. God damn mother fuckers...

Ok, this is nothing new because I think nearly everyone expected this. But this launch is really a huge failure.

While I wouldnt argue with this, the queues and downtimes have been ridiculous and should have been nailed by an open beta stress test (the game should have not launched for another month tbh), I am confused with who you are trying to inform with this post.

Trust me. We get it.

Continous posts stating the obvious, and scratching around to make things look even worse then they are, just smack of posters trying to attention whore.

About a week ago i thougt i could play Darkfall on the 25th. I was sure, that there will be a few server crashes and an overall laggy performance. But this situation is much worse than I expected.

Yes, it is pretty bad. But, again, we know this. Why post the obvious?

1. Only a few people were able to preorder.

Well, the pre-orders were limited, so yes on 'a few people were able to pre-order'...

This is just a symptom of them being an indie dev though, not having the infra-structure of Blizzard, and scaling the operation accordingly.

Listen, BIG infra-structure means BIG investment, which means the game HAS to be a guaranteed success. This ihn turn means NO innovation or risk in it's design. Which means more of the same old mass market ez mode solo grind shit that we have been offered the last few years.

Darkfall can be different because it's indie, and because it's generating it's own investment to launch. This means it isnt rich, until the idea is proven.

This means a small launch.

I am confused why people don't get that.

2. You were only able to preorder with credit cards. (They aren't very common in Germany)

Not one person in your house has a CC?

Personally, I honestly think this is just nit-picking.

3. The download of this game was a cramp

The download was?

You mean the torrent?

I'm sorry, but no.

Properly set up, the torrent flew. It was a very effective way to download imo.

4. There were massive problems with the patcher

Agreed. This should have been nailed in an open stress test.

They were insane for not having one.

5. You have to have 9 GB! free space on your Windows hard drive partition to install a small patch ( Finally I was able to install it after deleting a registry listing)

I assumed this, so I am not getting the same shock you obviously are from it.

6. Forums and account pages are down

Yeah, again, they should have prepared way better for this, I agree.

They choose a stinking billing partner and, tbh, should sue their ass off when this is over for the damage that the handling of the accounts/ billing has caused them

No doubt it has cost them a lot of potentiol revenue as people get all emo about it across the web.

7. People who weren't able to "preorder" (like me) have to wait till tomorrow before new purchases will be possible

This has been covered already.

8. Bad informations politics

I have no problem witht he way Aventurine communicate. I have know everything when I have needed to know it.

Hope it will get better in the future!

well, I am sure you have ensured that it will by posting this :ermm:

My opinion of this post in short? Emo attention whoring that attempts to feed off this situation in the worst way.

Your lame rationalizations do nothing to change the fact that this launch has been an unmitigated failure as far as game launches go.

let me answer you from my point of view.
1. Only a few people were able to preorder
Yup. Because AV is a small company and on release they can handle only one server. This game is not meant to be played by millions of ppl in the first day.
2. You were only able to preorder with credit cards. (They aren't very common in Germany)
Common! Are you nuts? This is the most reliable way of cash mechanics.
I don't know a person who doesnt own a CC
3. The download of this game was a cramp
Torrents are the best way to distribute files.
4. There were massive problems with the patcher
There were some. But i don't mind that. The problem was with the traffic not the patcher.
5. You have to have 9 GB! free space on your Windows hard drive partition to install a small patch ( Finally I was able to install it after deleting a registry listing)
WoW 9GB??? do you own an ancient pc with a hard drive that has only 20gb in total?
If fucked up your windows deleting registry keys is the only way. So don't whine about it.
6. Forums and account pages are down
only because of retards and retarded threads and posts like yours.
7. People who weren't able to "preorder" (like me) have to wait till tomorrow before new purchases will be possible
OH NO! you didnt make it to preorder. What a loss.
8. Bad informations politics
The best information is that they are working to get everything done.
Not sitting at their pc's and writing stupid excuses why they can't launch it.

in conclusion:
GET A LIFE

I don't own a CC actually... I loathe credit.

Ever heard something about harddrive partitions?
Round about one third of German adults have credit cards.
They aren't common here. In this country you can use your debit card in shops and online purchases are paid with PayPal for example.
Sometimes my download speed dropped to 0,9 kb/s.

Tasos said, that Aventurine will never ever miss a release date.
But I wasn't angry about the delay, although the message about it was only a week before the January launch date.
But after two delays it is a little bit pathetic that the launch is such a desaster.

This is an issue with your PC imo, not with DF or Aveturine.

You obvously didnt set it up properly then.

Again, your issue not DF's or Aventurine's.

I actually think I was quite balanced in my views.

My major issue was with the continous spamming of issues we are all aware of in order to attention whore.

I believe I said this though.

upps

Well, as Av didnt have the time nor the manpower to update the frigging @homepage@ in January nor February, which would have cost max 1-2 man days incl. adding fancy new grafic&writing updates clearly indecated that they where at 150% capacity. Letting all the main communication about that game during beta going actually via leaker forums like this might be a clever viral marketing move, BUT not doing a big stress test nor the fuss about a staggered launch ...
I guess we all excepted something like this difficult launch, BUT from a financial point of view sorry to say it - its kinda missing out on a possible definite chunk of the 300-500k times 42Euro game price, which might have bought yesterday... and might now just pass.. who knows...

I am a bit more patient and less freaked out of not getting my preorder in cause i am currently in vacation mode on some beautyfull holiday island and just following the launch on my subnotebook till i am back in mid march. And i surely didnt feel like spending 10h refreshing the order page to get my preorder in...
Swimming in the pool or drinking some nice cool beer helps definitly to relax, else i proably would be quite annoyed like the others.

Well what i heard from beta atleast AV is fast patching bugs and stuff, which is indeed very promising and important for any (pvp) game (this failed for example vanguard badly more then their bad launch imo ... the lack of bugfixing), but a little more communication should be possible ... like putting in a text update every 2-3h hours.. just a line or two...

Good luck and lets hope in 2-3weeks every thing is sorted out and another server is up
