Yes, incredibly. In fact, it's one of the first things I would've done if I'd gotten in. I'd cap my upload so I could keep playing darkfall without lag and would slowly start the works on a long living torrent. Why wouldn't anyone do it? |

i think most people who have the beta are either having too much fun playing it (let's hope), or scared of uploading the full client, and i think i know why as a software developer, if i were designing an MMO with a patcher system like darkfall, i would have it create secret files somewhere in the directory structure which contains the user's name or IP or whatever. that way if a copy was ever leaked, it could be traced to the actual account who leaked it. also, as far as a private server, thats going to depend on the architecture of the client and server, which i understand is custom. someone with reverse engineering skills might be able to examine the client to get some clues to how it works, but it seems to me damn near impossible without having access to their source code. furthermore, i understand they employ rotating encryption algorithms on the communication with the server, to prevent cheaters and radar hacks, what not, so i imagine it'd be hard to use an IP network traffic sniffer to discern the protocol either. so it seems making a fake private server would be very hard HOWEVER, as a developer i'd also guess that the devs have added a way of running darkfall locally, as this would be hugely important in testing things. one would simply need to know enough about how the darkfall.exe operates, and by what means this can be enabled... perhaps command line options, perhaps an in-game console (if they created one), etc Edited by qualia, Jan 27 2009, 08:48 PM.

yah i didn't mean to discourage uploading a torrent, as i'd sure like to play with the client, but it might be safe to check for any obvious files with your name smack on it :-) |

Some on fohguild say its already being done and we should have a link for the full client soon. And yes they do say it has a console. Not sure if it was already in it or if they added it. Will keep checking |

Yes, it would be void of everything. You would be able to connect to the server, in this case, your own computer. But, since you don't have the necessary server files, that's all you can do. Connect to a server, that's empty of all server-side files. I'm not in the beta, so I don't know if darkfall has the zone data on the client side, if it does, then you could probably whip something up to create a server. Though I'd say you'd need a set of the server files as well. Edited by Tandborste, Jan 28 2009, 04:42 PM.

They were talking about some discussion on Pirate Bay that said some people were working on it... Here: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4670760/Darkfall_Patcher, on the second page of comments. Edited by MissileToe, Jan 28 2009, 06:14 PM.
