Progressive Fork Springs

Hello,
I just got done installing progressive fork springs and changing the fork oil. After I got everything put back together, I bounced on the suspension a bit to see how it felt, and how it worked. I noticed a rubbing noise that didn't seem to be there with the stock setup. Everything seemed to work well though. I rode the bike home from the garage, about 4 miles, and the front suspension IS noticeably improved (can't hear the noise when riding of course.) But still, is bothers me.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a problem I should fix, or if this is normal.

A couple things came to mind. First I thought the oil needed to slosh around a bit and coat the new springs. Could this be the case?

Second, the springs came with new PVC spacers that I (maybe stupidly) assumed were the correct length. They were both the same length, and seemed to produce a little more pre-load than stock, but that's what I was aiming for, so I didn't think anything of that.

BUT, one end of each spacer was clearly not square. They were off by one to three degrees. Could this be causing my rubbing noise? I'm thinking about researching fork pre-load, calculating my own spacer length and cutting the stock spacers to size.

Any advice? Is this noise I'm hearing normal, or do I have a problem to be fixed?

Thanks much,
John

Making your own spacers is always a good idea. Ends not square might also be making the springs rub. You could take a file and square off the ends to see if that stops the rubbing. Preload spacers are just a starting point. Some may need more preload and others will need less. You go by what works best for your situation. Forks will make a little noise until all the air is bled out of the system. Sounds like you have driven it enought that shouldn't be the problem. Squaring off the spacer end would be a good easy place to start. I'd also check to see that the washer is in the right place and the cup of the washer is inside the spring. Make sure the preload spacer is on top, then the washer then the springs. I believe that is the order that these come from Kawasaki. You could check the parts schematic on www.buykawasaki.com Let me know what you find out.
