Has anyone had problems starting their 2008 KLR650? I heard that some have this problem and that Kawasaki has issued a service bulletin with a fix. It seems the KACR needs a little modification so that you have better compression for starting. I'll contact Kawasaki and post here if I find anything out.

My 08 is hard to start when cold. The KACR is working too well. It is suppose to have 72+ psi of compression but only has about 50 psi. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet because the wheels are off at the moment.

My 08 would not start when the temps were below 50*
I could crank until the battery was nearly dead and only get a few coughs.
Temps above 50* it would start but not without some extra cranking in my opinion.
I had my dealer in Grand Junction perform the KACR modification, this is where the shave up to .003 off the KACR pin to get more compression while cranking. This worked wonders, with temps down to 40* it will start with no choke in just a few revolutions, below 40* pull the choke and it fires right up, let it warm up a minute and ready to go!!

If you have a hard starting 08, I would talk to my dealer, they should all know about the fix by now.

Well a buddy of mine has an 08 and the thing backfires, coughs and spits like there is no tomorrow. Three of us ride together and the 05 and 06 bikes run great.
