It would be great if similar group pictures could be added for States in Pakistan like Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan etc. Sri Lanka too. (Afghanistan also, but that could be impossible, given the current situation) That could cover the whole South Asia. Tsi, the source of the last set is not mentioned. The pics of Arunachal Pradesh are beautiful, are you from there by any chance? But yeah great pics, there's clearly a big difference between the Northwest and the deep South. The Northwesterners stand out for their lack of non-Caucasoid features among Indians. |

Most of the Indians from their regions here posted. Look representive. It is much better this time and refreshing and new instead of the bollywood types shown quite often. Edited by cloxias, Aug 21 2012, 10:59 PM.

What I notice is that there is a rather common phenotype running across all these groups of pictures (except the Eastern Mongoloid dominated areas), though the skin color changes by a couple of shades from north west to east and south. Even Haryana and Himachel Pradesh, northwest of Delhi look not that different from Tamil Nadu. People of South Asia, who live on the northern plains and south, look pretty much the same. When one cherry picks from this vast humanity ones gets the Bollywood types. Edited by jalu, Aug 22 2012, 03:18 AM.

Jalu, you could find plenty of ''Bollywood types'' atleast where I live. I've even posted many of them. You act as if they don't even exist in India and are imported from Iran or something... |

I don't know about that, there's a lot more non-Caucasoid features in Tamil Nadu than there is in the Northwest which hardly has any. Not to mention that TNs are often dark brown to black skinned. Look at the first picture of Tamil Nadu, the guy front row on the right has a shaved head and he doesn't look that different to an African. |

Jalu is delusional. He's been repeating the same thing in all the Indian related-threads. He thinks South Asians all look the same, even with regard to facial features and pigmentation, and that "Bollywood types" are 0.0001% of the Indian population. He also claims that anyone who looks out of the "ordinary" (including my relatives and I) was a "light skinned invader" to the subcontinent. What rubbish. Jalu, I can understand trying to build solidarity among Indians, but spreading lies and misinformation is NOT going to help you in that endeavor. It is clear from these pictures that Tamilians are VERY different from NW/NIndians. Anyone who disagrees is delusional. Period. It's useless trying to convince the eternal skeptics on this board. Even where I live, they are a dime a dozen. Edited by tutankhamun, Aug 22 2012, 03:55 PM.

I didn't say they don't exist in India. I said they are cherry picked. The usage of the phrase 'Bollywood type' itself refers to the fact that such phenotypes are not reprentative of Indians. If you are finding plenty of Bollywood types where you live in India, it is not showing up in the pictures shown in this thread. |

I also think its important to point out that we dont know the socioeconomic class/status of the people in these pictures-which I assume is lower class/lower middle class. This would mean that you would not see representation of the higher castes in these pictures- who have different phenotypes (closer to and just like the "Bollywood types" so derided on this board). So this is by no means representative of the subcontinent. It would take a MUCH bigger set of pictures to get close to representing the diversity that exists there. Anyone who disagrees is delusional. Period. Its not showing up because these people are from the lower socioeconomic strata. Its common sense, really. Stars in bollywood come from the upper crust of society. There are some exceptions, but the vast majority hail from well established families. As far as "cherry picked"- to the best of my knowledge, stars are ALWAYS cherry picked. You think Angelina Jolie is representative of Americans? You think Miss Puerto Rico is representative of Puerto Ricans? Go to any country, and they will always choose a "cherry picked" celebrity for their pageants/movies/TV shows etc. Because that is the whole point- to choose someone who stands out among the local populace- and someone who fits in with the ideal of beauty that exists there. So I dont really see why "cherry picking" of Bollywood stars is a problem- the only people who fail to realize this and continuously bring this up are insecure people who can't believe that ethereally good looking Indians exist, who are better looking than pretty much anyone else on Earth. And that's that. Edited by tutankhamun, Aug 22 2012, 04:12 PM.
