I'm wondering how common this is, it's rather common in Finland. One of the main things is that even 100 years ago Finland was quite poor and actually people didn't even get proper nutrition in every case.. so that's clearly a reason. Anyways are you taller than your parents and their parents? I am considerably and my brother even more. We are the tallest in our family as far as we know (even though one great grandparent was 186cm and really tall in end of 1800's) Me: 188cm / 6"2 Brother: 191cm / 6"3 Dad: 179cm / 5"11 Mom: 172cm / 5"8 Maternal grandfather: 176cm / 5"9 Maternal grandmother: 170cm / 5"7 Paternal grandfather: 174cm / 5"8 Paternal grandmother: 171cm / 5"7 1/2 Edited by Henke, Aug 1 2012, 05:42 PM.

I'm the same height as you (188cm). My dad is 1 or 2 cm shorter than me and mum is 170cm. Don't know about grandparents off the top of my head but nobody was taller than me. Btw, I have observed 4 of my little siblings growing up and their heights are in rather direct correlation with their sugar intake, those with an excessive sweet tooth grow really tall really early (which isn't really optimal either) and those with healthier diets follow a much more balanced growth curve. Also, I'd like to say that I think my height is perfect. Wouldn't want to be any taller, that would just make things awkward

Dude! your family is full of monsters ( in a good way)I agree But actually I might have lied a little, I might be "only" 187cm It sort of depends in different times.. Of course in the morning when rested it's a whole different issue, I've reached even 189.5cm then (people are 1-3cm taller in the morning)

It is very common in LT too - in the beginning of the last century we were one of the shortest people in Europe (a result of centuries of wars and revolts) and now we are the 5th tallest. I am taller than my mother, my brother is taller than our father. My mother & both of her siblings are taller than both of their parents. My father & both of his siblings are taller than both of their parents too. |

I am half a foot taller than my father and a foot taller than my mother. My shoe size was bigger than his when I was fifteen. I was able to lift up both of my parents at the same time by the age of 18. My mother smoked a lot while I was inside her. Since a mother's smoking stunts the growth of the child, I might have been well over 7 feet. I hate shopping for shoes. |

I'm just over 6 feet I think, but it's been a long time since I measured myself. Yeah I'm taller than my dad, who is only about 5'11", so I'm only an inch or two taller. My mother is a bit shorter, while her father is closer to my height. I grew taller than my dad but I don't think I inherited his extreme physical strength. I am strong, but the guy is over 70 and could probably still knock me out. It may have to do with working in the farms as a child though. His uncles came to America at a much younger age than he did and both reached about 6'4", so I'm inclined to think I inherited my physique more from my mother's side. When I look at the men on both her parents' sides, I see more resemblance to me. |

What shall I say? I am shorter than both of my parents, my sister, and only one of my grandmothers was shorter than me (I'm 163 or 5.4). But it's not a fair comparison. I stopped growing at the age of 15, but even before that my growth slowed down and I had the body measures of a 12 year old (so which I still have now). Reason for this is most probably a drug called 'Roaccutan' which was prescribed for me against my severe acne which I already had in my childhood. There is some evidence that it can lead to to premature epiphysial fusion of the growth plates. The doctors were unaware of this. At least my acne is gone and never returned again, hallelujah!

1. Do you think growth hormones given to cattle have unnaturally increased the growth of people in countries where this is present in the milk? 2. How big of a role does nutrition play vs heredity? |

Most men from my father's side are huge gigantic men. Some of them reach 2.05 M but they are very slim built. Very lanky. I got theire genes and I am 6ft6/1.98 M but very thin. I weigh 60 kg. Super light for my enormous height. I used to buy cigarettes for my friends at the age of 12 because the shopkeepers used to think I am 16+ lol. |
