I am. Maybe that means I'm a crypto-Jew. ![]() Actually we did it because my family has a long-ridden phobia against germs, etc. It was a tradition started many, many moons ago in response to all the WWI veterans returning with infections from life in the trenches. |

Err, they told you back home that these infections came from the trenches?

Um, yeah. Why's that so hard to believe? Infections DID occur in the trenches. It was just their "thinking" that was f'ed up. Although it would be a long shot for me to get one (I never went into battle trenches) their thinking was that it was better to get the operation done when you're a baby than when you're an adult. Personally, I think it's no less traumatic than when you're a baby...especially since babies aren't able to produce enough of the adrenaline (or some other sort of chemical stimulant, a natural pain killer) prior to the operation. Before an infection can occur, you need bad hygiene AND a place of origin where you catch the pathogen. But yeah ok, it probably happened in the trenches.

True. It probably grew into an old wives' tale and paranoia. |

No. I think circumcision is uncommon in europe, south america and most asian countries. |

Partly. Because of overdeveloped foreskin but far less was cut than for religious ceremonies. |
| If you take anything in this forum overly serious, you should really go and see a doctor. | |

Yeah, me too. Just like 7-11. My foreskin was cut by the doctor...not for religious ceremonies and not due to ethnicity (my immediate forebears were uncircumcized, or so I've been told). Reminds me of a joke. A Jewish couple asked their Mohel how much he charges for a circumcision. The Mohel replies: "Nothing, I just take tips." lolololol. Edited by Caudium, Jul 23 2012, 08:37 PM.

No I am not. I am European and Christian so no reason for it. The only reason for circumcsion can be madical issue. For the rest it is just wrong, especially if they do it to innocent babies. As for the women that like it, well they should get circumcised themselves!
