I've noticed this myself. Why are there so many men without college degrees? |

I think most guys hate school and end up wanting to beat the shit outve the teachers half the time, as those teachers are often assholes. |

LOL. Maybe men are more rebellious than women. I find even on here some men don't like to be told anything but if a man says the same thing they accept it ok. |

The school system is setup in a very effeminate way. Women learn better by group learning, working on things as a team as opposed to individual efforts, patience of sitting and listening to long winded/boring things for a long time. Not saying this to sound sexist, but it's true. Women function/thrive better in that sort of setting than men do. |

I can't agree with effeminate Rob. In all truth both girls and boys especially teenagers are more interested in their social lives than in anything having to do with learning. I actually think the genders should be kept separate because there is just too much raging hormones for them to concentrate on learning anything. I sat through many a boring lecture in college as well but my motivation to do that was the end-product. But I did doodle a lot in my notebooks! |

I am sure there is a resonable explanation to this. Everyone knows men are smarter. |

![]() The average IQ of men and women is about the same. The difference however is that the male curve is flatter than the female curve. This means that most women group around 100 IQ score, whereas there are more idiots and geniuses among men. The male brain is more radical since you only inherit one Y-chromosome from your father, whereas women have two X chromosomes to rely upon; so their intelligence is more stable. So, while there are more women in colleges and universities than men, if you go into the science, engineering, and mathematics based classes you'll find very few women; but if you go into the liberal arts classes you'll find very few men. So, one can argue that women are getting worthless degrees while men are still the ones driving technological innovation. Edited by Berserk, Jul 16 2012, 08:30 PM.

Who are you to claim one field of study is superior to the other? I don't buy into that BS. So a man with a Ph.D in Philosophy is not as intelligent as one who has a Ph.D in Math? There is such a thing as different kinds of intelligence and interests. Edited by Delilah, Jul 16 2012, 08:34 PM.

Yeah women are the archetype human form while men are heavily mutated in comparison. There is a lot more stress/work at play when a male child develops and it causes for more radical performance and variability later on in life. Guess that's why they thrive less in a standardized environment. Men are also probably more risk oriented as well. |

There are men who are geniuses working in all fields, so I'm not trying to bash philosophy. However, it does take a certain level of IQ to work in certain fields like science and engineering, which tends to exclude men and women who are average or below average. The point I was making is that if you walk into an English literature class, you basically have no way of telling how intelligent the students there are right away; there probably wouldn't be very many idiots there but the rest could be average since the amount of intelligence it takes to pass an English literature class isn't much compared to the amount of intelligence it would take to pass a Quantum Mechanics class. Students tend to know this, which is why not many sign up for the harder classes. In fact, one of the problems that America has today is that too many young people are getting degrees in fields like literature, philosophy, political science, etc. and not enough are getting math and science based degrees; and those students wonder why it's so difficult for them to get hired after they graduate. I don't agree Berserk. I find that people who are good in Math do very poorly in History or English. So again I see that as different kinds of intelligence. More like one is better verbally. As humans, we just can't be good at everything. |

Perhaps they don't have any interest in those fields. I'm the same way. In college I got A's in the classes that I enjoyed and I tended to get C's and B's in the classes that I hated. I'll give you an example. I hate Chemistry. I took it and got a C. I understood the concepts, but I was never motivated to study for it because it was so damn boring!!! But, I love biology and I aced my biology classes. I also like physics so I did well in that too. So, our interests come into play as well. So, one of the arguments that one can use to defend women in terms of why so few of them do math and science based degrees, is that they're just not interested in those fields. I'm willing to buy that, as from an early age boys like to tinker with things while girls like to play with dolls and socialize; so it's not surprising that boys grow up and enjoy take science and engineering classes while girls grow into women that enjoy classes where you discuss books and social issues in groups. |

Yes that's probably the reason. I happen to have had female friends who were good at math and hated history! They hated memorizing dates and facts and not only that but thinking critically about historical issues. I think people who specialize in social sciences are more analytical thinkers and we need them too. They balance those mathematical thinkers. |

No no joke. You seem biased against social sciences. Social sciences includes all these areas: anthropology, archaeology, criminology, economics, history, linguistics, communication studies, political science and international relations, sociology, geography, law, and psychology.[1][2] Edited by Delilah, Jul 16 2012, 09:04 PM.

If I sound biased it is because of my experience with them. Okay. Maybe people who study Law, Economics, Criminology and International Relations are analytical thinkers, you can exclude the rest. Edited by Vicente Maximiano, Jul 16 2012, 09:07 PM.

You can't exclude the rest because of your opinion. |
