Hi, I currently live in Saudi Arabia. I noticed in the recent few years that social restrictions on face cover for women is becoming less and less and now it is quite common to see Saudi girls with no face cover in malls and streets. What I find confusing is that most of the girls here have versatile look, means one could pass for many different races unlike men who have distinct fetures that are typical of Arabians. I found this vedio of A saudi Princess. From what I read she is royal by marriage and she belongs to a well known beduin tribe from Central Arabia which supposidly means she is pure Arabian given that those tribes care a lot about keeping pure blood line. I wonder if it is true that women tend to have less distinct racial fetures than men and if so would you consider that this princess look pure Arabian? The video is here Edited by klsal, Jul 6 2012, 10:31 PM.

Its just confusing to me that the women I have seen here have very versitle look. Unlike men they can pass for many different races while men dont! See! this is what I am talking about. She looks like a mix of different races. Even though She belong to a very well known tribe in Saudi Arabia called Otaibah! One of the first few things I have learned in this country that those tribes dont usually mix with non tribal people through marriage. Edited by klsal, Jul 6 2012, 11:35 PM.

@klsal, Regarding women looking less distinct than men, I already opened a thread on this recently. http://s1.zetaboards.com/anthroscape/topic/4763094/1/ Funny you thought of the same thing, I guess there is some truth to it. |

Royalty is hardly "representative" lol. This woman looks very mixed... probably has a lot of Persian/Kurdish blood. Arab women don't look like that. |

You are probably right. There was quite alot of influx into the Arabian peninsula. So it should not be so shocking.
She could indeed pass for Kurdish, Iranian, Afghan, Pakistani and North Indian. Edited by cloxias, Jul 10 2012, 12:01 AM.

Lol, of course people here get confused, it's pretty rare to see Saudi women unveiled. I doubt she's mixed. Pretty hypocritical that the royalty appears to be exempt from the religious dress code otherwise forced upon commoners. I bet people were expecting something like this, the only Saudi woman otherwise commonly posted:

^ the woman you posted is actually much more typical for that region than someone like Princess Ameerah who has a very Iranid look to her. |

That woman is not typical of the region at all. She is not Saudi but Omani in the first place. Princess Ameerah does not look Iranid at all and she comes from the Anezah tribe. She is Nejadi as you can get. Edited by Alberta, Jul 10 2012, 01:11 AM.

She's very typical. Omanis and Saudis are practically the same thing anyway. Princess Ameerah? No.. She's very atypical for that region. She looks Kurdish for effs sake. Unless you are trying to tell me that Iranids and Arabids look the same? |

Well, I have been reading a lot about the social fabric in this country and I assure you that Princess Ameerah is pure beduin from one of the country's most conservative tribes. She is not born royal so the statement (royals are not representative of the public) does not apply here. She is from a tribe called Otaibah, first thing I learned in this country is those tribes dont mix with non tribal people and they are very selective of other tribes they mix with by marriage. Beside that, to me she looks a stereotypical of what I see in this country. She is even quite average!! so if she looks Iranian or Kurdish then most women here are imported LOL. please see her pictures with many saudi women in the video. I have been doing some googling and I was quite impressed that in the recent years the numbers of saudi female public appearance has became quite normal. In my search i have seen quite a lot of pictures, I'll try to post at another time |

One plate that matches her is this Indid(which far eastern Mediterranoid):![]() But that plate and princess also look partially Alpinized imo. But she's definitely within a Classic-Med and Alpine sphere. Edited by Crimson Guard, Jul 10 2012, 07:43 AM.

No, she doesn't look that atypical at all. She has Arabian features. She looks just like a Kuwaiti woman I know. She probably has a ton of makeup on though. Edited by stonesheep, Jul 10 2012, 09:09 AM.
