Its almost always hard for me to focus on things and to get my thoughts together at many times so it is hard for me to write and speak at times. What I mean is that I never feel like I can express myself because my thoughts are so disorganized and also when I am having a conversation with people Im not paying attention to what Im saying at many times and start saying things like "ummm" and slowly babbling on the sentence. Does anyone else feel this way? I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago btw |

To some extent. Do you feel this way when alone too? When posting online? Or is it just when around people? It might be a little social anxiety. I would suggest taking some deep breaths and remaining silent for a few moments in order to collect yourself. |

I can think and speak just fine, I just sometimes tend to be over critical of myself when I'm writing and often mess up anyway.. |

Not being able to focus your thoughts quickly and effectively for speach or writing is sometimes called dyslexia. There are therapies available that enable you to focus your mind. When you can focus your mind, your day becomes much more productive and less demanding at the same time. |

I actually do have exactly the same problem, but I know where it's from. I had slight hypoxia at birth and the result is a lack of concentration. In fact, my results in the section 'concentration' of IQ tests really suck! It could have come worse though, my parents were told right after my birth that I'll probably turn out to become retarded (well ok, sometimes... ).I also have problems following people in longer speeches or discussions. I need more time to read long texts and most important, I get exhausted very easily. It also sucked that I had to repeat two whole school years because of that. Thankfully I'm doing quite well at other sections and my social skills are not that bad, either. Sometimes I feel ashamed for needing more and longer breaks than others, and generally taking more time for getting things done. But once I give myself that time, the results can easily compete with those of others. Edited by Keksalarm, Jul 3 2012, 08:18 PM.

You really need to see a qualified psychiatrist and most probably get medication. Maybe methylphenidate if it's just ADHD but it could be other stuff, too. I also have trouble concentrating but without hyperactivity. |

Well I feel like where ever I am I cant concentrate or focus on things and its hard to keep ideas in my mind and my memory is not very good and is kind of weird, for example I can remember what happened at a random trip to the mall when I was 6 years old but sometimes I cant even remember what I had for breakfast the day before. I am thinking that a lot of this has to do with ADHD. But when I am around a large group of people and they are talking to me I do get very anxious and its hard for me to talk. Also when Im talking to even one person who I know very well I have pause in the middle of talking and babble a little because I dont really know what Im talking about and I cant focus. My psychologist thinks it is some kind of anxiety but Im not sure. I also hate shaking hands with people and will refuse to touch anything until I scrub my hands with soap, I also dont like going in swimming pools because so many people have been in there. I also dont like being touched at all and it makes me feel very uncomfortable. When I was very young I had something called Sensory Integration Dysfunction but I went through a lot of treatment for that and am much better now (when I was little I used to be scared of human contact and whenever wind would blow I would scream and cry but I was only like 2 or 3 years old, but it is still unusual). You might just have a nervous personality. You might improve if you practice more and if you just try to remind yourself to be organized. Maybe carry a notepad. A lot of people forget things. I used to be shy, and I'm really shy around groups of people but if I'm having a 1-1 conversation I speak better than most people. I just get shy nervous and I'm not used to talking in large groups where everything is very spontaneous. |

Sounds like asperger syndrome which often comes together with ADHD. OCD is also possible. In any case, seeing a good psychiatrist |

But that's already good news if it helps you with focusing. I mean, it's what it is supposed to do. You can't expect anything more than that. Have your ever tried antidepressants? They are often used for generalised anxieties or OCD,too. |

My psychologist wanted me to take anti-depressants a few months ago because I was depressed and had suicidal thoughts, but I dont really feel that way that much, sometimes I feel extremely happy and sometimes I feel very depressed which is why I decided not to take them because I havent felt depressed in 2 or 3 months or so now so Im not really sure if it would help. But if it helps with anxieities then I might try talking to my psychologist again about them. I was reading what you said about aspergers and I dont think I have that because I obviously dont have Autism because I have friends (just not a ton) plus my psychologist said I dont have it. I guess it could be some kind of anxiety disorder or something and I hope to God its not some early kind of schizophrenia. |

I'm like this all the time but I have been getting better the last few years, but its still hard. Smoking seems to help if I'm in a group of people who are smoking also even if I don't know any of them. But I'm way better in small groups and I need help carrying conversations sometimes. Its hard to find random people who are interested in Anthropology haha. But for real, its hard to have a conversation when people are so fucking stupid I hate talking to them, I dont want to talk about movies or reality shows so I guess I cant have any friends!
