I dont like it, but i think its good for people who are unhappy with their appearances to be able to fix it,
However, society shouldn't make normal-looking people unhappy with their appearences.
True, but i dont really see how that is posible, as what they show on TV is dependant on the market, what people are willing to watch, and unfortunately some phenotypes are not as popular as others.

I completely agree with your point here.
I even have a funny/tragic example of that:
http://www.tempo.com.ph/2012/man-takes-wife-to-court-for-being-ugly-wins-120000/#.T8DExtXdlSQ

I would guess that in evolutionary terms you'd feel deceived, and in my opinion it is quite low to do that.
Personally, I know this girl that used to have a really noticeable Armenoid nose and nobody paid her any attention. She then got a rhinoplasty to get her nose straightened and reduced and suddenly all those guys that ignored her, started hitting on her. I guess it's fine for the moment.... as long as she is 100% honest when/if her future husband asks her to have children with her.

Another issue to keep the topic going ;):

Is there any harm done to your partner/society if you change your facial features but decide to never have children?
damn that story was really sad, poor girl spent so much on fixing he appearance, and then she gets sued for it and has to pay an even bigger ammount of money, not fair, i dont agree with that dude winning the case. You cant be sued for cheating on your spouse can you? i want to avoid that situation but i would not go to court if it happened.

I don't think it's cheating against Nature...what's wrong with a girl getting a boob job? Not much different then working out or something, changing your physical appearance.

It can be used to repair damage as well. I knew a guy that was very obese most his life (still young, early 20's)....then he decided to really work his ass off and lost well over a hundred pounds in about a years worth of time. When he got done he looked awesome was in great shape and could run for miles, etc...but He had a lot of excess and stretched skin, he told me planned on getting it removed with surgery. It cost him like 6,000 dollars too, which is a lot of money just to get some excess skin removed if you ask me. So I don't see anything wrong with that.

Really I only disagree with it when they go over board like what Michael Jackson did, now that's just weird.

I personally have nothing against boob jobs, its just when it comes to the face, its a much bigger deal. The face is the identity of a person, boobs are just accessories. thats how i see it.

It also depends on the state of the art technologies that exist regarding surgery.

I don't think we will ever see the day where someone can design their whole body, if that was the case I would like to be a 1.95m built Thor-like Viking, but I suppose that with more discoveries, people might be able to increasingly alter their appearance if they can afford it.

Once again, I really don't see the problem with it, as long as they don't cheat on their sexual partners and deceive them into breeding with them. That's my immovable reserve.

There are many people who are plagued by low self esteem and insecurity that greatly benefit from plastic surgery. Who are we to tell them they should just accept their looks and be happy with the way they were born? It´s human nature to want to feel attractive and desired.
