Cosmetic Surgery; Comment on it

Hello there, once again, I find myself bored before going to sleep and I began reading some news, and taking a look at several pictures from people around the globe, and I began thinking about cosmetic plastic surgery.

What is your opinion on it? Do you discourage it? Think it's ok as long as you do it moderately?

You can also derive a lot of issues from such starting point:

Is it cheating against nature? Tricking people into mating with you?
What about surgery to tone down/modify your ethnic appearance? Taking my case as an example, what if I get a rhinoplasty to straighten my nose and reduce its width + cutting a bit of my eyelids?

Just a few ideas about it, add more, comment and I hope you can make use of the topic to discuss and express whatever you feel like saying.

Cheers :)

I'm not against it İf people especially women feel uncomfortable about their looks. But I don't approve it when people want to change their ethnic looks via surgery like demanding an upturned nose instead of a hooked one.(I mean you can have your nose reduced if it's big in proportion to your face, but if you want to change its shape because it looks ethnic I'm against it)

I am not a fan of these operantions also. Unless you work with enterteiniment and you have to keep an image I wouldn't even consider doing an esthetic surgery. In your case you mentioned changing your ethnic appearence, if you were my son I would tell you to not do it, but it's your life.

Exactly.

But hen again its only different in degree (and cost) from wearing make up.

Exactly
It should be banned, or at least there should be a system that wont let the operation to be hidden.(maybe it should exist only for repairing the look after a trauma)

People want authenticity — to live in a way that’s in
tune with the truth of who they are as human beings and the world
they live in.

I dont like it, but i think its good for people who are unhappy with their appearances to be able to fix it, and they deserve their privacy about it, im also scared if i end up marrying some girl who has had a significant facial surgery without telling me, and without me noticing, like a nose surgery.

Cause if i where to have kids with such a girl, the kids could potentially inherit those traits that she removed from herself, and i dont know how i would react.

However, society shouldn't make normal-looking people unhappy with their appearences.

I completely agree with your point here.
I even have a funny/tragic example of that:
http://www.tempo.com.ph/2012/man-takes-wife-to-court-for-being-ugly-wins-120000/#.T8DExtXdlSQ

I would guess that in evolutionary terms you'd feel deceived, and in my opinion it is quite low to do that.
Personally, I know this girl that used to have a really noticeable Armenoid nose and nobody paid her any attention. She then got a rhinoplasty to get her nose straightened and reduced and suddenly all those guys that ignored her, started hitting on her. I guess it's fine for the moment.... as long as she is 100% honest when/if her future husband asks her to have children with her.
----------------------------------------------

Another issue to keep the topic going ;):

Is there any harm done to your partner/society if you change your facial features but decide to never have children?

Cosmetic surgery should only be for people who have been disfigured from an accident or cases where people are born like this, to avoid the social stigma. Do you know how people might treat him if he doesn't have plastic surgery:

It sounds like buying myself a new body as if body is a kind of product ,doesn't seem right to me.My body is a living organism that I respect ,I won't risk it for petty reasons like a supposedly better look.If people don't like my physical appearance its their problem not mine. I won't fix it according to their aestethic taste.

ps:Extreme cases like deformation or accidents are a different story.Women who lost their breast having and an aestetic surgery quite understandable ..

I won't even bother ..a body is not a fashion design .
Am I a consumer ,is my body a pair of shoes?
I don't want to consume myself.

That's all of what you are really.
A temporary expendable living being. There isn't any mystical depth to it really.

As such, why shouldn't I try to make looking at myself in the mirror a less annoying experience?
I will never have any children, so there is genetic deception either.

For me there is ..
A body is a gift of nature therefore it's mystical ,it's not an expendable object ...
I'd like to see myself in the mirror ,not some artificial humanmade construction.

but ofcourse its my opinion ,my free choice not a moral value or virtue..

It's kind of divine retribution that so many plastic surgeries fail and ruin some people's looks. They're seeking out vanity and superficiality but that vanity causes them to become a caricature. I think many of these super rich that become obsessed with plastic surgury just do it as a status symbol and as a way to say "i'm so much better than the common person". Even if it makes them look like freaks. They're just channeling their self entitlement into any way they can to separate themselves from average. I don't really care about it but I do think less of people that have it. Says a lot about their character and the desperate thoughts they must think.

There's nothing wrong with it. Some people need operations which are highly "cosmetic" in nature, like jaw surgery. Form and function go together after all. Why should someone not want to look better?

Same guy before and after
