Meat-eating males considered more masculine than vegans and vegetarians, per study

Quote:

Are vegetarian men not real men? And meat-eating men more masculine?

Those are the suggestions of a new study which found a clear association between the way people view rib-and-steak kind of men, versus vegetarian, soy milk kind of guys.

In a study published this week in the Journal of Consumer Research, a team of researchers examined people's word association between certain foods and the way consumers rate the ‘masculinity' of things like meat versus milk or vegetables.

In an "I Tarzan, you Jane," kind of result, researchers found that people tend to associate meat eaters as more masculine than vegetarians and vegans, both in the US and Britain.

After examining 23 languages that use gendered pronouns, researchers also discovered that meat-related metaphors were also more closely associated to the male gender.

"To the strong, traditional, macho, bicep-flexing, All-American male, red meat is a strong, traditional, macho, bicep-flexing, All-American food," the authors wrote. "Soy is not. To eat it, they would have to give up a food they saw as strong and powerful like themselves for a food they saw as weak and wimpy."

Meanwhile, in order to soften the tough sell of vegetarian -- and more heart-healthy -- products to men, researchers suggest reshaping soy burgers to make them resemble beef, and giving them grill marks to make them more appealing.

Lol that's sad. I understand it; there's an age-old link to hunting, dominating another animal, that makes it "strong", but we ought to move away from that. I think humanity will at some point drop meat-eating altogether.

Soy contains phytoestrogens anyway, which are estrogen-like chemicals that bind to estrogen receptors in the body and act as such. I wouldn't go anywhere near it as a male and preferably still not as a female. There are enough disruptive chemicals in soy so that non-fermented soybean products (everything that is commercially available) were considered unfit for human consumption until corporations that envisioned mass profits started pushing for a use for the cheap inappetizing sludge and somehow managed to label it as a health food in the process.

Veganism is akin to a religion anyway. Arguing with vegans is like playing chess with a pigeon; no matter how good you are at chess, the pigeon is going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board, and strut around like it's victorious.

LOL good one...those are usually the far lefties that don't think reasonable and have no personal choices and no individuality, but think through slogans and half assed judeo-christianized morals devoid of the God figure and replaced with blind faith in their few far left slogans that are pigeon-holed through the eye of a needle into reality somehow...they are not as worse as the christians though.

Not only that i like meat, i like fending for my own meat...although i have an ethical conflict for it. (I don't like pork at all, beef and chicken not a great fan but they will go, fish meat is the best)

I like fishing, and I eat what I catch, best meals ever...i would go hunting too if I had the means...I had interest in learning how to use the bow a long time ago, i learned with a friend a couple of years ago, now i want to build myself one or buy one and maybe hunt small animals like pheasants with it, although i don't know if it legal.

sometimes i make fun of "legit" vegan girls that even though they are vegans they still eat meat but don't swallow it, and they bow down their heads in discontent and we laugh.

Hunters that hide in trees wearing camo with movement detection are just yabbos. There is no skill or honor in that and I don't understand it at all. I guess it's just materialism in hunting form, When I was younger we used to follow deer trails to their nests (but I never hunted) and that was much funner and more challenging than waiting around with a high powered rifle like some yabbo.

Outside North America, hunting is actually necessary for forest conservation because all those deer folks would destroy the trees since we do not have enough predators in most parts of Europe or East Asia anymore. Killed off by Europeans to protect their herds and by probably by the Asians for food :D

I eat pretty much all meat, but I have the feeling that we eat too much of it. I love fish though and I eat that any chance I get, knowing it's healthy too.

They oughtta stop killing wolves and let natural predators come back and control the deer population the natural way, but nooo, they'd compete with the hunters.
