There are both racial and ethnic nose types. Even amongst Europeans, there are different types; from the upturned piggish noses of Nords to the larger downward curving noses of Spaniards, etc. Then you have Arab/Jewish noses, and Persian noses, etc. Amongst East Asians there are different types as well as amongst Africans, Native Americans, etc.

general rule: narrower face, more projecting nose and narrower nose. wider face, wider nose and shorter nose.

also noses slop downwards with age and get bigger. that's why when the western media wants to portray middle eastern as hooked nosed they use older people. if they showed middle eastern youth you d see much less convexity.

A few years ago I came across some photos of various Caucasian nose types. There were a number of pictures. The only two I can remember were the Greek and Roman noses. I remember the Greek because it was straight, and appeared to be what I think is the quintessential nose. I also remember the Roman, because the Roman nose is what I have. I've got a big ole bumpy Roman conk...

Nose: This may be classified easily into the following forms.

Long straight, slightly aquiline, sinuous, with narrow noses" These are typical of the Nordics.

Long, fleshy, aquiline, with pronouncedly conspicuous curled or whorled alae:the so-called "Jewish" nose, which is not only prevalent among that people, but also among the Turks, Armenians, many other Levantines, and not infrequently among the Parsees, and is a typical feature of the Armenoid race. It occured among the Hittites, some of the Etruscans, and Sumerians.

Long to medium length, straight sinuous, or sometimes slightly upturned and more fleshy: the Atlantic.

Long to medium length, straight to aquiline, very high bridge, and slightly fleshy: the so-called Roman nose belongs to this type. It was also a characteristic of the Etruscans, and is particularly to be associated with the Dinaric race.

Medium-length, straight, slightly aquiline, medium narrow noses: The Mediterranean.

Short straight to upturned, rather broad and fleshy: Alpine and East Baltic.

Short broad, moderately splayed nostrils, depressed bridge: Mongoloid and Bushmen.

Short, broad, widely splayed nostrils, medium to depressed bridge: Negroids, Negritoes and Australoids.

Yeah, those are the photos I was talking about. Thanks for finding them.

I do have the Roman nose, although my bump isn't quite as pronounced as the male shown in the photo.

I must be an anomaly. I have what is classified as a diamond shaped face. My cheekbones are very broad, but I am narrow in through the jaw and forehead. I have the Roman nose though, as opposed to anything snubbed, flat, short, or wide.

My nose doesn't fit in to any of these I don't think. Maybe Roman, but thats from the first nose type chart.
