The Mass conference was called, after the Spanish government turned a deaf ear to pleas by Asra Kadisha and notable Jewish activists to halt the desecration of the ancient Jewish cemetery in Spain which contains the final resting places of Asher ben Jehiel or the ROSH and Yonah ben Abraham Gerondi or Rabbenu Yona. (May 26, 2009). "Toledo Spain Cemetery Affair August 4, 2009 Observant Jews throughout the world have registered their pain regarding the graves inadvertently recently disturbed in an until-then unidentified and unregistered Jewish cemetery.
