23andMe and FTDNA are the most reliable. |

Yes very reliable, but very slow. Don't expect a quick result, and expect your due date to come and go without the results. |

I just order a 23andme DNA kit, I'll share my results once I get them. Does anyone know if there are groups you can join for sharing results or studies for certain ethnic groups? |

Well, all I know is that once you 23andMe results come back, you can send your raw data to Dr. McDonald for an analysis. Or to Polako's BGA or Dieneke's, when they accept new people again. You can also get further analysis sending your raw data to DNA Tribes, now that I've read they are offering an SNP analysis or to Anthrogenealogy, I think that's the name. Polako's, Dieneke's and McDonald's report are free. For the other two there's a charge. Oh, I almost forgot FTDNA. Now that they are changing to the Illumina chip, same as 23andMe's, maybe you'll be able to upload your raw data too. FTDNA also offers an autosomal test: Popualtion Finder. If you visit DNA Forums, I'm sure you'll obtain more information on this subject. Once your 23andMe resuts arrive, I am sure they will show you are 100% European/Caucasian and will fall in both the Southern Euro and the Northern Euro clusters, in the Advanced Global Similarity feature. You'll be close to other Iberians. For the basic Global Similarity, you'l be Southern European. You will not have that many "cousins" on your Relative Finder list, they'll probably be a combination of other Spaniards/Portuguese, Europeans and Latin Americans. You are most likey R1b1b1b2a1a2 or R-P312, for your Y hg. although you could also have a less common hg. |

I ask because I'm not sure if I should take that one that discriminates between East Asian and Native American, or just stick with 23 and me. |

AncestryByDNA is no good. It only uses 176 markers and they're AIMs, which can overestimate admixture. Have a look at this thread: http://s1.zetaboards.com/anthroscape/topic/3850597/1/ |

3 questions: - Which ones are good and have the ability to check a female for both paternal and maternal lines in some way? (In other words, more than mtDNA that traces back just the maternal lines.) -Can you get 23and kits anywhere but via their website? - Also, wondering beyond them which is a reliable service with good ancestral info that distinguishes Native American-ism? Maybe I should have chosen 23andme, it seems to be your favorite company. Any opinions on this test I came across: http://dnaconsultants.com/our-tests/dna-fingerprint-plus Who is McDonald, what does he offer?
