In May 2008, one month after launching, a moderator account was cracked and the forum was deleted. The perpetrator of the attack was deranged cyberstalker and former member "r. suydam" (aka "Anon" in the old days and "n/a" on his new blog that nobody reads). His motive? Envy of this forum's rapid growth in the face of his own miserable failure, and frustration that his attempts at trolling here backfired. The terms "sore loser" and "temper tantrum" aptly sum up his path to vandalism. On its homepage, ZetaBoards says it can restore lost data, which is what we've been waiting for. But in late October -- apparently after receiving a flood of requests they couldn't fulfill -- they revised that statement with a disclaimer that they don't guarantee they can or will perform restorations. Enough time has been wasted waiting, and we only lost a month's worth of data anyway, so we've decided to just start over from scratch. Security will be tighter now and there shouldn't be any problems like this in future. If you already have an account but can't remember your password, follow the link on the login page to perform a password reset. Once you're logged in, you can request a name change under Preferences if you don't like the name you signed up with. Also, feel free to repost anything you had posted before, especially if it has "permanent" value, like a gallery of anthropology plates or a resource link. You'll notice that we now have a number of different forum themes to choose from. In addition to the default blue/orange Original theme, there's an all-blue Classic theme, a gray Pro theme, and Light and Dark themes. You can make your choice using the theme selector at the bottom left of the board or the one under Preferences > Board Settings. Other themes may be added in the future. Also, the Affiliate Directory is now a web page rather than a forum, which will help with quality control. If you would like your site added to the directory, send me a PM or an email with the site's name, URL and a brief description.
