Google Chrome is a good one that should be added under the Internet section.

Sorry for the long wait, I've updated the list. The remainder is taken care of by the open disc suite which is a bundling of all the other notable freeware applications

For Internet security freeware, there's also Spybot and PeerGuardian. Spybot is a spyware detection program and PeerGuardian works as an IP blocker which can prevent spammers and other intrusions from detecting the IP address coming from your computer.

I updated the list, more than anything I've added links to sites which personally recommend the best available freeware. I've also added a link to a desktop virtualization software called Virtual box

There's also Malwarebytes, which, when working side-by-side with AVG can be as good as paid antivirus software.

For those wanting an accurate means of keeping track of data usage if your ISP caps you monthly, try out Networx. The application runs alongside your Internet connection to measure your bandwidth speed and usage, as well as keep daily, weekly, and monthly records of how much data you've sent (uploaded) and received (downloaded).

Does Networx differentiate between lan and wan traffic?

As far as I know, no it doesn't. It measures data usage coming off whatever connection you are currently using and doesn't differentiate between multiple networks. It does however provide the option to keep track of data usage coming from multiple users on a single computer.

I see, so it's the same as the software I'm using, Bandwidth Monitor Pro (except Networx is freeware).

ZOMG Ana I love you for creating this thread! How the heck did I not come in here before???? Ive been looking for a free security app too. My McAffee trial ends soon, and I got myself a copy of Kaspersky 2010 with regedit instructions to crack it.

Does anybody recommend AVG over Kaspersky?

I use Avast! home edition. IMO although the detection rate isn't the best in the world it has the fewest limitations as free security programs go. COMODO is good freebie internet security suite too but I use it primarily for firewall functionality. AVG is also good, but I personally don't use it for the reasons I stated in using avast

From what I understand most of these are already compatible with windows 7. I know COMODO definitely works since I use it on my VM. Avast will be releasing version 5 as well.

Zone Alarm free firewall does not run on Win 7. So I guess that probably applies to the rest of their products too.
