Topic: AnimeChains FAQ & Information Welcome to the Anime Chains Frequently Asked Questions 1) I don't want anyone else to access my account. What should I do? These simple guidelines might help to keep your account yours so no one else might guess what yours is... not that its a big problem here but there is always a chance. This is taken from the Symantic Website: Creating a Hacker-Proof Password Like most computer users, you probably have several passwords one for email, one for your online bank account, one for your favorite e-tailer. Many people have a dozen or more, and keeping track of all of those logins and passwords can be difficult. It may seem tempting to create passwords so they're easier to remember, using your birth date, dog's name, or some other obvious choice. But by doing that, you are playing right into the hacker's hands. The challenge in creating a hacker-proof password is to make the password as difficult as possible to guess without making it impossible for you to remember. Here are some tips to creating a solid password: - Use a combination of upper and lowercase letters, punctuation and numbers. - Keep your passwords for your online accounts (such as message board accounts, bank accounts, etc.) different. Do not make them the same. - Change your password regularly. To make it easier to remember to change your password, associate it with an event. For example, change your password the first of each month or every other payday. - Use a password that is at least six characters long. The more characters your password contains, the more difficult it can be to figure out. - Use a password that is easy for you to remember so you don't have to write it down.[/color] Avoid vulnerable passwords using these guidelines: - Do not use names or numbers associated with you, such as a birth date or nickname. - Don't use your username or login name in any form. - Don't use your name, or the name of a family member or pet. - Avoid using a solitary word in any language. - Don't use the word "password." - Don't use other information easily obtained about you. This includes license plate numbers, telephone numbers, social security numbers, the brand of your automobile, the name of the street you live on, etc. Remembering Your Password Passwords should always be memorized and never written down. There are tools you can use to help you choose passwords that are easy to memorise, but still hard to hack: - Use an acronym by choosing a line from a song and using the first letter of each word. - Choose two short words that have nothing in common and combine them with punctuation or numerals, like "moss9desk" or "fast!carpet." Use a familiar phrase but substitute zeroes for "o"s, ones for "i"s and so on. Not writing your password down is especially for if you have a brother or sister that might get ahold of your password. Hopefully this will be a good thing for the members to use to prevent the chance guessing of passwords. If you can't figure out any, here are some links to a few password generators. There are many others out there, but these are just a few that'll help generate ones that are nearly impossible for a hacker to figure out. http://www.webmasters-cavern.com/tools/pas...maker/index.php http://zaph.com/passmaker.cgi/PassMaker http://www.computerbasicsandbeyond.com/Password_Maker.html Also, if you sign on in a public place such as a school or library, be sure to log out when you are done. To log out, simply click on 'Logout' at the top. An example of a good password is "a7fkj55gkut". An example of a bad password is "password". By all means, do not use the passwords that are shown here. 2) What are the ranks and how do I attain them? Members added to the elite group will begin with this rank if they have more than 7,000 posts. 3) Are there limits to your signature and avatar? Yes. The rules regarding the filesize of signatures have been frequently violated. Furthermore, avatars are automatically re-sized to 100x100, some concern for the dial-up and other narrowband users needs to use, and thus a maximum of 60 KB is being established at least temporarily, and that number may decrease or increase depending on what the administration decides upon Also, you may have any number of pictures in your signature, as long as the maximum filesize does not total more than 100,000 bytes and the combined dimensions do not exceed 500 x 200 pixels. In short, the maximums: Signature Pics Dimensions: 500x200 Filesize: 100 KB Avatars Dimensions: 100 x 100 Filesize: 60 KB From this point forward, these policies will be strictly enforced. If your signature or avatar disappears, it is because it violates these terms. You may or may not receive a warning. However, if your signature or avatar is removed and you do not change it to an acceptable picture, resize, or compress it, your account can and will be suspended. 4) What should I do if I see a topic that violates the Terms of Service? Report it to a Moderator via a Private Message immediately. The Moderator will then take care of it once they receive the message. 5) How large is my Private Messenger Inbox and how often should I clean it? This is just a reminder to try your best to keep your PM inboxes from totally filling up. Letting your PM box fill up causes members to temporarily "lose contact" with you. It also causes the need to post a "reminder topic" directed to the person with the full inbox. These topics often result in SPAM posts. Just try to remember to clean out all unnecessary PMs before you log off. Also, if you have to keep certain PMs, you can "archive" them by using the "email to yourself" option. Your inbox can contain up to 100 messages. 6) What is the Buddy List feature? The Buddy List feature helps you keep track of your friends or the moderators, and you may use it to quickly select someone to send a Private Message to. You may also use it to prevent people from sending you a message. 7) Warn Meters Whenever you break a rule of the TOS, your warn meter will be increased. If it gets to 100%, you will be perma-banned, but you may receive shorter bans along the way at the mods' discretion. Warn meters can be reduced by any mod if they feel that a warn meter no longer needs to be at a certain level. 8) What should I do if I get banned? Try to get in touch with a moderator. Do not create a new account while you are banned as that is circumventing, and that is against the rules. Circumventing will double the ban you have, and a second circumvent will result in you being permabanned. If you can't get in touch with a moderator, ask a friend or something to contact one for you. Some Posting Tips - Do NOT double post or triple post. Make use of the Edit button you have. - Read the descriptions of each forum and make sure you post in the correct forum. - Try to post in a way that your post will actually be readable. - Abide by the rules of the Terms of Service. - If you need to know the forum codes for things such as signature images, you can find them here. Special thanks to Shawn of the Gameshark forums for typing most of this up. |

Rules that forum moderators enforce (Forum Laws) *Written by Anime Chains (AC) Moderator: Grahf Here are basic rules of AC that moderators are to enforce. Please remember that these rules aren't absolute, in the end its all based on that particular mod's judgment (MJ). Based on that Mod's particular judgment a thread could be locked, moved, deleted, edited as so on. Best way to resolve these issues is to pm the mod of that forum if u think something was done unjustly.
So in the end please use common sense. Language filters No dodging the language filters and no links to curses, basically no curses in any form. While we might let you get away with the occaison 'ass' or 'damn', please keep the language appropriate for the age groups. Edited by Anaconda, Jul 5 2008, 10:27 PM.
