Ready for some great medical drama on TV? Well, besides House. Nebs brings us word that the SyFy Channel -- if I must call it that -- the Monster anime will be airing starting October 12th. Based on the manga by Japanator favorite Naoki Urasawa, it follows Dr. Tenma as he attempts to track down a psychopath he had once saved as a patient.

Interestingly, this marks Viz's debut on the SyFy Channel, which had mostly been featuring Bandai shows beforehand. Viz's previous television efforts for the adult crowd consisted of shows on Adult Swim -- most notably, Death Note.

Hopefully the turnout for Monster will be good, as the show ran for 74 episodes back in Japan, and I'm sure it'll need good ratings the first time around in order to justify airing all of them -- unless Viz is paying for the timeslot, of course. The DVDs are just starting to trickle out this year, and I'm sure the show is well worth watching, seeing as it's animated by Madhouse and all.

Any of you excited to get some medical drama on?

yay now dont have to watch house reruns

I sitll don't have a choice Xd
no cable...

Still it's nice to see that there are other channels showing these series other than AS which has sharply dropped in quality over the years

Wouldn't Monster be more of a mystery/thriller drama title instead of "medical drama"?

My wife and I watched the first two episodes last night and we both thought it was really good. Hopefully enough people tune in and it gets the ratings it needs to keep going.

On a side note Syfy's sister station Chiller is also showing anime on Mondays starting at 9:00 EST before Syfy starts their time slot. So far they have just been showing movies but at least it is exposure.

You mean 74 episodes. Yeah, the motion comics are a crappy idea to have for a half hour block. For something that's being used to promote a comic series, the voice acting sounded stiff and emotionless. Even so, I have no interest in collecting the Street Fighter and Voltron comics.

I must admit that my wife and I did not even try to watch the motion comics and switched over to repeats of Robot Chicken instead. We have the Watchmen motion comic and I could not even sit thru that.

You mean show actual anime on animondays, that makes too much sense. LOL

I do hope that Viz does release the entire series of Monster on DVD even if the ratings do not do good. After just two episodes we are hooked.

I hope viz releases it in 3 box sets since that would make most sense.
