In this thread I'd like to begin a serious discussion of what is perhaps one of my favorite OVA series Kara no Kyoukai: Garden of Sinners as it's still in progress in the Japanese anime market. The OVA will consist of seven movies, five of which have already been released with the sixth due to be released on Japanese DVD in late July of 2009. The series is based on a Japanese novel series authored by Kinoko Nasu and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi. The novel series is also known by the alias of Rakkyo (らっきょ?). Story Kara No Kyoukai is very much focused on the supernatural. Shiki Ryougi is a major focus of the each movie’s plot and one of the main protagonists if you will of the series. Shiki’s background prior to the year in which the story takes place is a bit blurry, however it’s known that she gained the power to see “death lines” -- that is, the flaws that exist in all things living and no-living. She laid in a coma for two years near death, and the result of this experience was the full manifestation of comprehending the nature of death. She can essentially cancel out an existence and completely destroy any object or boundary in which she cuts along these lines. The concept of death lines in this series places Kara no Kyoukai in an alternate universe of another Type-Moon anime series, Tsukihime, with the protagonist of the series, Shiki Ryōgi, possessing similar abilities as Tsukihime's protagonist, Shiki Tohno, and another Tsukihime character, Aoko Aozaki's sister, Tōko Aozaki (who was briefly mentioned in Tsukihime), also being featured. The story is extremely well developed compared with many other series I’ve watched. Albeit some of the character history isn’t really covered chronologically based on the movie release. For example the third movie was largely dedicated to answering questions as to how Shiki ended up in her current state. Whereas the other episodes focused more on what was happening in the now. What are peoples thoughts on the characters and aspects of their development throughout the series? Would anyone like to start off? |

I love the 2 personalities Shiki has, and how one of them died when she was in a coma and how it affects her other personality. The fact both her personalities were aware of each other makes things pretty interesting. Also, do you know if the novels will be translated? |

I see, well that's interesting. I honestly never expected it to be released in the western world. I can't find any mention of it on Del Ray's website though.. |

I'll see if I can find anything on it, but as far as I know, scantalation of the novels seems to have been discontinued as a result of its supposed licensing. |

Yeah I know. Thanks for looking it up, but it's not like it's that important. I can live without it ;P |
