I don't watch much hentai, but I remember one where the story was fantastic, it was like berserk with extra gore and extra (softcore) sex scenes. I forget the name of it, though I remember thinking "This should've been an anime series...".

Looks like we've found our first no0b. :P You'd be suprised at how many IRL pr0ns have storylines. Especially from the 80's! People just don't find them anymore. I have this softcore pron with models in it called Strike A Pose and it has a really good story to it! Also the entire Cool Devices series is a series of "Erotic" stories, but many of the stories are things that do really happen in real life! o.0

I'm honestly not sure how to view hentai titles as it would depend on what the title is trying to convey, despite my very limited exposure to such titles. As Slan discussed, there have been cases of hentai titles that have an actual plot and characters with depth where they could be justified as something more than just simply "porn." Case in point, Kite. Spoiler: click to toggle It can be argued that the rape scenes involving Sawa and Akai in Kite are used to show the growth of Sawa's character to be less submissive to Akai and show the hypocrisy of Akai's character as he is no different from the rapists and molesters that Sawa is sent to dispose of. And while I have yet to see it, Urotsukidouji is considered the mother of all hentai titles in terms of plotting since the plot to the movie series was spread across several titles.

Personally I like fanservice but I don't like ero encompassing the story's entire plot. If these scenes are important to the character development or the story advancement then fine... but it's annoying when it in itself is the story
