How do you obtain your anime? Your collection?; Downloading, DVDs, TV?

Hi there. I was wondering how you guys get your anime. I mean, it's fine and such to watch it on TV, but do you also download or buy on DVD?

For me, I always do my best to buy on DVD. I admit, I have a bad habit of waiting for thinpaks/complete boxsets but if there's an anime I really want I'll buy individual volumes (with the collector box) -- I've done this for Ai Yori Aoshi, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (I even have all special editions), Peach Girl, Welcome to the NHK and currently with Lucky Star. I don't have any anime on my computer... I own all of my anime on DVD. Here's a pic of what I have:

Front row of collection.
Back row of collection.

I also bought the complete set of Love Hina... it's not pictured. I know my collection is small but I always buy when I can.

I'm normally a collector of thinpak/ complete box sets for anime titles. There have only been a few cases where I never bought box sets and that was when I either got all the volumes of an anime series individually or there was no box set for a section of the series that I winded up having to buy individual volumes instead.

Outside of buying, I download my anime nowadays. With cable TV cutting back on anime, I don't come across any good anime titles too often.

Here's a link to a post I made a couple months ago on Anime News Network which shows off my collection. The only anime I bought recently that wasn't on here was a box set of the entire Tenchi Universe series.

Wow, you have Koi Kaze and Azumanga Daioh -- I have both of those. =O I THINK I see ToHeart also... is that it? I have the boxset for it also.

Getting all of Koi Kaze from stores wasn't exactly easy. It took me over a year until I found a video store that had the second volume. And yes, I really like the series. Delivers a different take on romance that's more down-to-earth compared to recent titles I've come across.

And while I have seen To Heart before, I don't have the series on DVD nor do I have any interest in wanting to try collecting it. I never took to the series too well when I seen it.

Yeah, I agree. It's very different and if you're open to what it is, it's a very enjoyable series. I did buy the first volume a long time ago but was very fortunate to find a complete boxset when I was searching for the 2nd volume. The stickers it came with are awesome, too.

I only have Ergo Proxy vol1 on DVD, the rest is downloaded or streamed. I can't really afford them. I can't watch on TV either because there's none airing on cable tv here (beside stuff like bayblade -_- )

I'll buy them in box sets at Walmart, Best Buy or Suncoast but mostly I watch mine online.

I recently started ordering my titles from online via Rightstuf.com. Right now, I'm trying to fill in the gaps of missing volumes I have in my anime DVD collection with Tenchi Muyo and Read or Die TV.

I'm too young to hold a job (actually, I can get one, but it's too far to walk), so I buy what I can. This typically ends up being manga, because you'll watch anime on a screen either way, but nothing beats having a book in your hands.

I tend to order mine solely from B&N, mainly because we have a membership there, so... ^__^

I have
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Volumes 1-3
Lucky Star: Volume 1 (2 comes out this Thursday!)
Code Geass: Volume 1/Nightmare of Nunnally
and Azumanga Daioh: The Omnibus.

I'll probably buy anime and stuffs once I get into the middle of high school or something.

Yeah...

I buy a combination of thinpacks and individual dvds. If it is something that I know that I want I buy the dvds as they come out with the collectors box. If it is something that I want to watch at somepoint but I am in no hurry I buy the thinpack set.

The only "bootleg" anime that we have is the complete set of Yu-Gi-Oh and I only bought the import set because I could not get the unedited version from any U.S. distributors. It is a Christmas present for my oldest son and I do not think he cares if it is bootleg or not, but I will tell him this is the only time he is getting an import set.

I mainly save up for DVDs and follow a couple series on streaming sites like Crunchyroll.
