OOC: Sorry to say it's not much... hope it works though. Athens… Blazing in the sky was Helios, unleashing his blissful rays over the many, many people busying the streets of Athens. Children running around all over the place, women carrying baskets and men heaving… whatever they were heaving. And the tumult! Clunks and thumps from the blacksmith’s, yells and yawps from the marketplace. Animals mewing and barking and bah-ing and every other onomatopoeia across the Hellenic Lands! Not to mention babies, children, women and men, emitting the loudest of shrieks, letting people know that they existed. Oh, Zeus, did they exist! And now, now they were all proving their pitiful existence inside Nikos’ throbbing head. The night before had been something else. Something he hadn’t had in a while. He’d just completed this gruesome job… almost… inhumane! There was nothing that could wash the blood away than pure red wine. So, naturally, he spent half of his acquired money on trying to forget why he got them in the first place, drinking the night away in the companionship of other sorry drunkards, all of them praising the Almighty Dionysus! And then came the cup addressed to Hermes, the next was to honour the Goddess of Chastity and Wildlife, Artemis, after which came the series of praises yelled in favour of none other than Apollo (all of which were accompanied by the occasional hiccup and refilling of the cup). Even the thought of that made him want to bury his head in the dirt before his feet. At least the torture would go away. ‘This must be how Hades gets his way around Tartarus,’ Nikos thought bitterly as he sped up. Normally, he would find joy in being in Athens again. He didn’t really know why, but his heart soared with glee whenever he set foot in Attica – perhaps it was the fact that so many good things were said to have happened there. Athens was, after all, the most important city in all of Greece. (Not to mention the best place to find job offers. The greater the offer, the higher the reward.) Yes, Athens had it all: the sites, the mind-numbing beverages and the women. When it came to distractions, it was unrivalled. All this was playing at the back of Nikos’ mind, as he was desperately trying to walk off his hangover. It was well after noon, he should have been feeling better by now – or so he liked to delude himself. His creamy linen tunic hanging loosely around his lean torso, he swept past two bickering women and stopped just in time to avoid colliding with a small child. The boy flashed a would-be toothy grin – if only his front teeth weren’t missing – and skidded off. Suddenly feeling rather weary and nauseated, Nikos leaned against the wall of a nearby building and ran a hand over his angular face. Rhythmically, he distinguished the beating of his own pulse in his temples, as if the tone which conducted the cacophonous symphony around him. ‘Terrific.’ Feeling his hand being pulled he tightened the hold on Falx's rein and pulled the animal back. "Stop it Falx, I'm in no mood for your moods..." Edited by Nikos, May 19 2008, 10:46 PM.
