The house was quiet except for the sound of water running through the cast iron baseboards. It was nearly seven and Candace was alone in the kitchen, waiting in the corner of the large room as she waited for the yellow light to flicker on her rice cooker. Devil was upstairs with Reiko, but once her daughter was down for the evening the two could have their supper. Mike would be heading out for a Superbowl party tonight so the two could enjoy some authentic Japanese cuisine without feeling guilty. The Hammer, hardcore wrestling legend and rugged football star that he was, always tended to get antsy when he noticed fish with their heads still intact.

Candace could hear Crystal’s radio from down the hallway. If she knew the Rose Girl was going to be the house guest for the evening she would have allowed Devil to buy the crabs she was looking at in the market.

The creak of the floor boards drew Candace’s attention away from the rice cooker and towards Mike Hilton. The Hammer, looking sharp in a gray and black suit with a red tie, smiled at he leaned in the doorway.

“You thrilled to see her?”

Candace sighed, shrugging as she rocked back on her seat.

“She your sister. I Ok with her being here for a while.”

“Maybe we can convert the living room to a guest roof. I’m sure she won’t be here longer than six, seven months…a year at the most.”

Candace considered flipping her husband off—something Devil would think nothing of doing under similar circumstances, but realized that it wasn’t the Hammer she wanted to extend a finger salute to. It was Crystal.

“You know you guys should at least talk. I know Christina can be a bit full of her self from time to time…ok maybe most of the time…but she’s really not that bad.”

Candace stared out into space, jaw slacked, eyes dull. She wasn’t buying the Hammers excuses for his sister’s actions through the years. Candace and Crystal had numerous clashes going back to their days in the IWA and by now the Asian beauty had lost all interest in listening to excuses for her sister-in-laws behavior. She could accept the fact that Crystal was an uber competitive competitor—respect it even. What rubbed her wrong was that Crystal was dishonest, the type of person to look you in the eyes and lie to you if it benefited her. She had no problem with competition, but clearly had issues with back stabbers.

“You sure you not have Cherrie over? Ester?”

Hilton smiled.

“I was thinking you too could bunk together tonight.”

Candace giggled as she waited for the Hammer to laugh off the joke. The serious look on his face quickly set the hairs on the back of her neck on edge.

This was not a joke.

“Actually Frisk and I are going to a Superbowl party…so its kind of gonna be you, Devil…and…”

Candace muttered something in Japanese under her breathe. Mike new it was a profanity since that was the only way Candace swore. The idea of spending her night with Crystal was not what she had in mind, but at least with Devil around she would be sure that the evening was fairly uneventful. Crystal would normally think nothing of offering her comments if it was just her and Candace, especially knowing that Candace would do nothing about it since Crystal was a guest in her house. However with Devil lurking in the shadows Crystal would be far better behaved. Matsumoto would not sit back and tolerate any diva behavior from the Rose Girl, and unless Crystal was in the mood for world war 3.

“I’m sure Crystal will be fine. Hey she’s probably really tired and I imagine she’ll be going to bed early.”

“Superbowl party?”

“Yeah. Have a few beers, watch the game on TV.”

“Where at?”

The Hammer blushed, dropping his eyes to the ground as he pulled the car keys from his pocket.

“…a…restaurant.”

Candace cocked an eyebrow. The Hammer started towards the door.

“I’ll probably be back late. Usually after the game we’ll be shooting the shit with the other guys…probably play a little pool…”

“Let me guess…Hooters.”

Hilton chuckled, nodding as he opened the door and ducked through the doorway. A moment passed, then he stuck his head back into the room.

“You and Devil aren’t going to do anything to Crystal while I’m away?”

“You give me idea.” She replied with a smile.

Mike nervously returned the smile, hurrying out of the house to great Frisco as he pulled his limo into their driveway. The last thing he needed was for his former manager to start blaring his horn and wake Reiko. He turned towards Candace, who was standing in the front doorway of the house, and waved before hurrying into the limo.

Candace stepped back from the doorway, moving back into the kitchen and taking her seat at the table. She could hear the Devil hurrying down the steps from upstairs. Reiko had finally gone to sleep and dinner was ready. Candace picked up the two china plates from the table, pausing for a moment as she turned her attention back to the music coming from Crystal’s room. Devil, wearing an oversized black T shirt, panties and flip flops, walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the table
.

“Where dinner?”

“Maybe we offer her some too?”

Candace nodded in the direction of Crystal’s bedroom. The Devil glanced down the hallway, a scowl quickly forming on her face.

“Oh yeah. Maybe I go out and pick her up some dinner. Not want to be rude for sweet little Crystal.”

Candace quickly pressed the tip of her finger over her friends lips, shushing the enigmatic one before she was overheard.

“I not happy she here. But she guest.”

“She pain in ass.”

Candace again shushed the Devil, craning her neck to peer down the hallway to Crystal’s room. The music was loud enough that she wouldn’t of over heard the two.

“We ask her if she want join us. If she say no we at least made offer.”

“What if she say yes?”

Candace shrugged. She had plenty of fish and rice ready just in case. Matsumoto rolled her eyes, mumbling something in Japanese before grabbing the one bottle of Sake sitting in the middle of the table. Devil bought the sake to her chest, hugging the bottle like a baby as she planted a kiss on her favorite beverage.

“Just tell her keep hands away from my sake.”

“Are you ready for some football?”

Hilton rocked back in the leather seats of the limo. The ride was dark, only the small lights running down the carpets and the small nine inch television monitor could be seen as it headed down rte 56 towards the interstate. It was a little after nine and the roads were surprisingly barren. Frisco popped open a bottle of whiskey and poured it into a glass as the driver sped up to catch the yellow light.

“Might as well have a drink. By the time we get to…”

Hilton glanced towards the front, barely flinching as he noticed the yellow light was now red.

“This joker going to get us a ticket for blowing through lights?”

The limo races through the red light. It wasn’t half way across the road when the SUV crashed into it with hellacious impact.

SPLAT!

A bone jarring crash could be heard as the limo crumpled instantly on impact, flipping over as bent steel and broken glass exoloded onto the asphault.
