I know initiative is a bit confusing on PbP, but here is how it works (I think Joel was a little confused, which is probably my poor explanation :P):

Ignoring the surprise round rules (which are a little different), a regular combat works like this:

1. The DM makes a call for people to roll initiative.
2. The DM rolls the initiative for each monster. He then averages that value.
--> In the case of this particular combat, I noticed that the average monster initiative was going to be lower than the average party initiative no matter what, so I skipped steps 3-4.
3. The party rolls initiative. They don't take actions yet.
4. The DM averages out the party initiative and then compares the average monster initiative to the average party initiative. If the party has the higher initiative, they act first (in whatever order they decide to post). If the monsters have the higher initiative, the DM will perform their actions right now.

So the main point here is that initiative is group against group. I might change feats like improved initiative to have a bit more of an impact (right now it only increases average initiative by less than 1).

Also, just assume you hit with attacks. Joel was right to put down the damage even though it was a probable miss. When the monsters have their round, I will summarize the effects of each character's actions.

Yeah, I actually just misread what you wrote on the form. Sorry about that, but I do get it.

No worries :)

Just thought I should clarify before the others posted.
