Kaya's Room

The walls are painted a deep, rich blue, and the furniture is all black. The bedsheets are white and lacy, with a blue blanket to throw over the top of it all.

Somehow, the room brings to mind an old European gothic aristocrat feel, yet without any windows it seems dark and unwelcoming.

Kaya woke up in her room.

No.

Kaya woke up in a room that was very much like her room, but was, in fact, not her room.

She could tell, because she didn't hear any angry shouts, or traffic, or guns, or the calls of the hookers on the corner.

So clearly, this was not her room.

The lack of windows helped to clue her in too, as well as the different arrangement of furniture that was not quite hers but could probably fool most people.

So all in all, not her room.

The gravity of the situation struck her all at once, and threw her into a panic. Before she could catch herself, she screamed. And with the scream, her surroundings darkened further. Figures clouded her mind, men in dark suits, at a distance, talking to him. She'd screamed then too, more than she thought she could, as they grabbed him.

Her mind cleared minutes later. Just like every other attack she had, she found herself shaking violently, gripping her blankets in a cold sweat.

But unlike every other attack, something had changed in her vision.

"STOP! Let him go, let him go, let him go, STOP IT!" The girl screamed, but the roads around her were too loud, the city was too busy, and she was far too small. But she kept screaming, masked by the freeway above her head, masked by the distance between herself and the men she screamed at.

Her voice cracked as she screamed, turning it into a screech halfway through, and she burst into tears.

Her tears must have covered the sounds around her, as without so much as a warning a strong hand was clasped over her mouth, and everything went dark.

Kaya stared out into the small room in shock. They grabbed me too?!

It was like a lightbulb going off in her head. She knew exactly where she was. She knew exactly what had happened.

She was out the door without another thought.
