{Appearance}

Chad stands at a height of 6’ 5”, an average height that matches his average body frame. He lack the muscle that many men prides themselves on, but he has just enough to mange his rough life style. As dull as his body may be one thing stands out above all else; his eyes. These bright blue orbs shine and sparkle along with his always present smile but these eyes have an effect that could swallow a person’s consciousness whole, most people who feel their power try to avoid meeting their gaze but if one where to mistakenly make eye contact they more often than not shy away from him . For these eyes have the power that makes people truly anxious, the feeling they bring is the sensation that they stare into one’s soul.

Almost as if to save anyone that is trapped in Chad’s gaze is blocked most of the time by a pair of sunglasses that he frequently wears thus concealing their power but they also provide warm aura.

Chad’s garb presents the same relief as his sunglasses by offering an even more welcoming and comfortable atmosphere about him. His yellow long sleeve shirt lies un-tucked over his tattered baggy jeans. He is often seen wearing an auburn colored over coat and scarf, he also generally carries a bamboo fishing pole and an old army green map bag crammed with all of his possessions.

{Personality}

Chad enjoys a leisurely life style although it isn’t always so easy. Do to his constant procrastination and his blunt attitude he often falls into the hands of trouble. Because of this Chad has become an avid liar and with his ever present grin the mendacities that slip from his beaming lips become more plausible. Despite this he has a very kind nature about him and he always tries to do what he thinks is best for him self and everyone around him.

But above all else he takes pleasure in solitude, he finds most people annoying and to fast paced and with his nomadic life style it is easy to avoid highly populated areas. But not to worry Chad’s hospitable atmosphere does not go unused, regrettably due to his lethargic tendencies he is often hounded for disregarded tasks he is give and is frequently fired from the jobs he is able to pick up.

This man has one striking technicality that an individual is able to distinguish as soon as he speaks; he has a profound southern drawl. This contributes to his isolation, for conversing is often a complex ordeal and as stated earlier he often avoids such strains as a gap dividing his speech and someone else’s. He acquired this inflection form his frequent roving, but he prefers this attained idiom because people tend to open up more to him when he sounds like a foreigner there for he can take advantage of this trust to score money or even a place to sleep for the night.

{History}

21 years ago

In the sleepy town of Millenia an infant’s cries echoed from the front of Robert and Linda Demner’s quaint home. The happy couple had settled into the little dwelling two weeks ago in order to provide a suitable living environment for the life now stirring inside of Linda’s belly. The young pair had just finished setting up their living room furniture when they heard the cry. Ready for what ever lay outside, Robert armed with a baseball bat slowly opened the door and peered out into the night. The friendly town that Robert had fallen in love with now seemed so foreign and hostile, as he stepped onto the small concrete stair that lay in front of the petite stoop. However his foot made contact not with the hard stability of the concrete but with the soft bundle that lay upon it. Robert’s ankle pivoted, sending him reeling onto the sidewalk at the same time the scream of an infant sounded from the darkness. Linda opened the door when she heard the ruckus, the soft fluorescent glow streamed out into the darkness. She gazed down at the light blue package that rested on the cool concrete, with a moment of hesitation she slowly bent down and took the bundle in to her loving arms and un-wrapped the blanket.

There inside the warm cocoon, a blonde haired boy smiled up at her with giant blue eyes that pleaded for her embrace. Staring down at the child made Linda’s heart beat faster. There was some thing extraordinary about this child; she felt this in the pit of her stomach. She had to protect it, it had to be hers. She rushed inside cradling the baby in her arms, ignoring her husband’s questions she shut the door and rushed to the dining room. There she found a box labeled in big black letters “Baby shower gifts “ she quickly ripped open the box her family and friend’s smiling faces flooded her memory, sighing she began her search for a bottle and all the necessities that the baby. “You can’t keep it!” announced Robert as he stumbled into the tiny room. “And why not?” She retorted not bothering to look up “Someone left him there out in the cold and the dark, why should they be allowed to care for this child?” The disgruntled man stared in amazement “why was she doing this?” he questioned himself.” Honey, it’s not like that, I just saying we already have a baby of our own on the way. We can’t afford another.” A strange silence fell over the house only the soft cooing of the child sounded in the growing stillness. “We just can’t leave him.” Linda whispered finally breaking the silence, her voice creaked with tears. “We can’t…….” She lifted the child for Robert to see. “He needs us! You said you wanted a boy, well here, this is your boy. The one inside me is a girl I can feel it.”

Robert opened his mouth to protest but the facts all lined up, he had wanted a boy and was in fact very disappointed when Linda announced that the life inside would be a girl “Ok, we can keep him.” Robert felt defeat well up inside of him and quickly disappeared into the kitchen. He needed a drink, a very strong drink one that could make him forget the mistake he just made.

The next few months past by quickly, the bundle that the Demner’s found on their front step could now walk and was the cause of a numerous amount of unspeakable mayhem. He often took up most of Linda’s time, for this she was grateful; for she didn’t have time to concentrate on her husband’s drunkenness or his absence. She would often fantasize her self holding her unborn child; this brought an unknown happiness to her heart. Now as she rested she saw her smiling daughter’s face; she could almost feel the infant’s newborn skin. Her fantasy was cut short by a painful kick to the ribs from inside her belly, and a loud crash that sounded from the living room.
With a sigh she lifted her bulging frame from the chair where she had perched and wobbled ungracefully toward her mischievous son.

Robert on the other hand had become a drunkard; he avoided home and was often found in a bar after his punched out at work. But no matter how much he drank he still could not find a drink strong enough to wash away the defeat and the monster that had taken residence in his home. He didn’t understand his hatred toward “Chad” or as Linda called him, but something in the boy’s eyes sparked the loathing fire that now burned inside him, but for now he would just order another drink and try once again.

7 months later

The baby was here Linda had given birth to a beautiful little girl; she had Roberts emerald eyes and Linda’s corn silk hair. The whole town came to witness the spectacle except one man who was ordering another beverage and reading the local newspaper. Only one person noticed his absence and that person was the one that Robert loathed.

Chad looked around for the man that never came home only to discover that he was once again absent. He felt his hand being squeezed and turned to see his mother’s exhausted face; her delicate features were riddled with pain and disappointment. Looking in her eyes Chad could tell that she also noticed the man’s absence. He offered a soft smile in attempt to give his mother some courage. She smiled weakly and reached for her delicate child that a nurse handed her. The mob rejoiced, but there was stillness in the air; a cold numbing sensation ran through the room. A look of horror washed over Linda’s face as the room fell into silence; the baby had stopped breathing. Linda felt hopeless as she watched her baby girl gasping for air, all she could do was watch; her mouth hung open in a silent scream as a near by nurse grabbed the infant and exited the room. Chad grabbed for his mother’s hand but was unable to reach for her hands gasped the air where the nurse who just exited the room stood. He was scared everything swarmed his young and fragile mind; he didn’t understand what was happening. The only thing that he knew is something was wrong and it had something to do with that nurse.

Making his was to the door where the woman disappeared behind; he made a plan to stop the woman and return the child to his mother’s hands “That would make her happy, and she will see how brave I am!” He mumbled as he reached form the door handle. Chad swung the door open and revealed the tiny room behind it; the roomed glowed with the soft blue light produced by computer monitors. In his mind he played the image of his mother’s face shining as she received the child from his arms, and the praise that she would shower him in for saving her precious child from the wicked nurse who took it from her in the first place. He stepped into the room unnoticed and once the door was closed behind him, he began to search for the vile woman. His hunt lead him in to another computer filled room and still no sign of the woman “She has to be here” he announced as he stepped further in to the room. Then the wheezing sound of a respirator and the annoying beep of a heart monitor entered his ear drum.

The mislead boy instinctively followed the sounds into a much larger and brighter room and there the woman was hovering over a table with her back toward him. “Give it back!” Chad yelled and ran toward the nurse with his eyes clamped shut. The nursed turned to face her attacker with a confused expression “what are you doing in here?” she asked as she swept him off his feet. “Look!” She declared while she pointed at the small infant on the table” Your sister is all better now, no need to worry your sweet little head Honey.” Opening his eyes Chad looked upon his sibling; she had a cup attached to hose over her mouth and nose and several weird wires connected to her. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at him with her emerald eyes and with a squeal of joy reached for him with a tiny fist. Instinctively he reached out taking the small hand in his, her skin tingled against his own while a bolt of electricity charged through he’s being and into his soul. He would protect her, teach her, and love her with everything he had no matter what.

18 years ago

Chad was now five and mischievous as ever, he would often leave the house to explore the near by woods and play with the wild pokemon that resided there. But what Chad wanted more than anything was to play with his sister and show her the beautiful outdoors. Unfortunately due to Lorie’s weak lungs his mother locked her up inside the house and refused to let him show her the world that he was now exploring. Unknowledgeable of his sister’s condition he would constantly try to sneak her out of his mother’s watchful eyes and into the world outside, but was always unsuccessful.

One day after breakfast, he developed a plan that was sure to get his little sister outside. He would make a huge mess that would distract his mother while he and Lorie slipped out the door. “Perfect!” he exclaimed. With the random outburst his mother turned to face him with a puzzled look upon her face “What?” she questioned turning back to the dish she had been washing. Startled and afraid that she had already discovered his scheme Chad quickly pushed his plate on to the floor. The plate crashed against the floor sending food and glass in various directions, he stared down at the shattered dish in surprise. This would have to do as his distraction; he had to get Lorie out of the house quickly before his plan was foiled once again.

Linda turned around as the plate shattered against the hard wood floor, Chad seemed just as shocked as she was “ he must have been trying to get out of the chair and accidentally knocked it off the table.” Sighing she put down the bowl she was washing and slowly walked over to Chad, she lifted him from the chair and placed him in the living room next to Lorie. “Be good!” she commanded as she returned to the kitchen to clean up.

Now was his chance, his mother was distracted and Lorie was close at hand. He grabbed her soft hand once again feeling the bolt of electricity and began to creep toward the back door. His heart began to thump inside his ears, it was so loud he was positive that his mother would hear it and come investigate its source. She still didn’t come as he grabbed to door knob, he glanced back toward the kitchen and in desperation he flung open the door and pulled Lorie outside. He had done it he had managed to get her out side, a feeling of pride swelled inside his chest, but he hadn’t shown her the pokemon that lived in the woods yet. Maybe he would find a little clefairy that she could play with “She would enjoy that.” he thought as they made their way toward the woods. As they neared the forest Chad looked back upon their quite home, a wave of guilt washed over him making him sick. The feeling sank deeper in to his body and into his heart but he wanted to show Lorie the world outside, so he pushed this feeling in to the pit of his stomach and continued.

They soon entered a small clearing where small yellow flowers bloomed and small pokemon frolicked. The feeling that Chad felt earlier was washed away completely as he gazed down at his beaming little sister; they stepped further into the meadow. The sun warmed their faces as the world became obsolete; here peace surrounded them, but only for fleeting moment.

For tragedy soon grasped them as a spearow enter the small peaceful clearing, it didn’t take long to notice their presents and was immediately enraged. Chad stood staring at the raging beast, he had no pokemon to defend himself or his sister, the only option was to run. He grasped his scared sibling by the wrist and swiftly dashed into the woods behind them.

Chad ran as fast as he could, dragging his sister behind him, he had to get her out of there before she was hurt. Noble as his intentions where he didn’t realize his sister was gasping for breath; her right lung had collapsed from the strain. Half way home she collapsed her face was pale and her emerald eyes where wide with panic. “What’s wrong?” Chad asked as he helped her to her feet. “It’s ok it’s gone, I promise I won’t let it hurt you.” She fell once again; her mouth hung open as a wheezing sound escaped from the collapsing lung. She stared up at her brother who was repeating “oh no.” several times. She didn’t know what was going on; all she could do was gasp only to receive no air. Chad was scared this had never happened before, and then a thought came to mind “maybe mother can fix her!” He had to get her home; carefully he lifted her body and began to run home.

Upon their arrival Lorie had stopped wheezing “a good sign.” Thought Chad in fact she had stopped moving all together “she must be asleep.” Or so he thought. Emerging from the wood he caught sight of his mother standing outside; she looked angry but he would have to face the fireworks, his little sister needed to be fixed and the only one that could fix her was his mom. As she saw them a look of relief was shortly replaced with the look that she wore when the nurse took Lorie. She began to run toward them when she got to the place where he stood , she quickly grabbed the ‘sleeping’ Lorie from his arms and as quickly as she appeared disappeared into the house, leaving Chad all alone.

3 years after the incident

Chad tried frequently to talk to his mother but each attempt would trigger
her anger, with this ire she would send him to his room without supper. In return he would sneak out once again and watch her sob until she fell in to a restless sleep.
He was sorry for causing this pain, several times he heard his mother cry out in the middle of the night and he also heard her and the man that never comes home talking about Lorie’s death, what ever death was it didn’t sound pleasant. He ran back to his room he had to come up with a plan that would make his mother happy once again.
As he stepped past his door frame a thought entered his reeling mind, he pondered on it for a few moments before beginning his preparations.

He would have to act quickly and silently so as not to cause any suspicion of his actions. He decided to carry out the scheme that night even though it would take a week or more to have every thing in order, but then again Chad never liked to wait.

That night

As the sun slowly sank under the horizon, Chad stared absentmindedly out the window. The evenings plan repeated it self over and over in his mind until he found no flaw or kink. “Diner’s ready!” his mother announced as he walked into the kitchen, when she noticed him smiling she asked “Chad honey, could you be a dear and get your sister.”

Obediently Chad turned and exited the kitchen knowing that if he woke his mother from her fantasy she would be thrown in to one of her violent rages. He entered Lorie’s small room a small wave of grief washed over him. He missed her, he hadn’t seen her in three years and he was beginning to think that she would never come back. Then a notion enters his mind “why not wait until she came back, then she could …. “No, he wouldn’t take her because she was the only thing that makes his mother happy with that he turned and walked back down the stairs.

“She’s asleep.” He announced as he entered the kitchen and perched himself on a chair. “Aw sweet thing, she had a hard day, with you sneaking her outside and all.” His mother cooed while she placed n empty plate in front of him. Chad stared down in bewilderment ‘she was still in her imaginary world’ he felt his heart breaking inside his chest. It was him who caused this lunacy; it was him that made Lorie disappear; it’s entirely his fault. Anger now swept over him ‘how was he to know this would happen, he only wanted Lorie to see how wonderful the external world was.’ He pushed himself off the chair and once again exited the kitchen; he heard his mother’s objections behind him. She was going into a rage that was easy to see as she called his name. Chad closed his room door and flung his body lifelessly on his bed, he stared wondering what was to become of him. He slowly lifted himself so he could begin to assemble the essential objects for his scheme. He picked up a rucksack and began to stuff it with of his possessions. A knock came form his door, in attempt to hide his activities he quickly shoved the bag under the bed just as the door swung open.

His mother stood in the doorway, panic pounded in Chad’s head. “She’s gone” She muttered while waterfalls poured from her eyes. “Oh, Chad your not even mine and yet you treat me so well.” She ran to embrace him “I’m a horrible mother.” Chad stood shocked “Not even hers, what could that mean?” She collapsed pulling him with her. They lay on his bed and after several hours he gathered up enough courage to ask her about what she meant. “Mother” He squeaked, she began to laugh historically and her grip around his small frame tighten to where he was no longer able to breath freely. “Sweetie I’m not your mother!” she giggled finally “you where abandoned by ‘your mother’ when you where two years old.” She fell back into another fit of laughter. Chad wriggled from her arms and his body slammed down against the floor, His entire world was crashing down around him.

“Abandoned” he breathed, he rose staring at the hysterical woman that had once been his mother. The word spun around him, it made him dizzy, the impact of it nearly knocked him to his knees. The room suddenly became small, he had to get out of there or the room would swallow him whole. He lunged for his bag and sprinted toward the front door. With the woman’s laughter still ringing in his ear, Chad stepped out in to the desolate street. He stood there absorbing the night air; he hadn’t thought that his plan would work so well, but his plan only covered how to get out of the house and not where to go; fortunately his fake mother had given him the answer to the dilemma. He would have to find his real mother, surly she would take him in and cherish him. With that he headed off in to the night in search of her.

The present

Chad flicked a cigarette over the edge of the boat; the sun glowed orange over the water. “Nice out here isn’t it?” a woman’s voice sounded from behind him. “’s alright, I suppose.” He replied, reeling up his empty hook, he cursed silently before re-baiting it and casting it back out. “Do you mind telling me your name?’’ The woman huffed as she tapped her foot on the bow. “‘ot at all!” Chad turned and flashed his teeth “but why would someone like your self want to know.” She flushed and ran back to the sleeping quarters, women where trouble some, they only got in his way and women were prone to nagging. Sighing Chad leaned over the side of the boat to watch the blazing sun sink lower in to the water. For the first time since he had given up trying to locate his real mother, he felt that he had a purpose and that reason will show it self tomorrow when he reached his new home.

He stretched and yawned “well I’d better hit the hey” me mouthed as he gathered his things and slowly stepped down the stairs leading to the sleeping quarters. Chad removed his glasses as he entered the dim hall way and there she was the girl that had just attempted to talk to him. She held her lean body in the stance that most women hold when angry “You think you’re all that now just because you have a smart mouth, don’t you?” Chad ignored the question and pushed passed her offering a small nonchalant wave to the woman, whose mouth was now open out of surprise. “This is going to be a long trip “he thought as he made his way to his room. Once there he opened the door and examined the cramped area. “This is going to be a really long trip” he yawned and slowly shut the door.
