Otonami Clan. (Sound wave clan.) History The Otonami clan started 67 years ago, beginning with Kenshiki Otonami. When he was born, he had very dull silverish eyes. A birth defect was the most obvious diagnosis. This was ignored as it was not life threatening. He lived with with his parents in a small, tight knit community of travelers. Eventually, at the age of twelve the truth behind the eyes was revealed. A small group of bandits walked into ther camp and started demanding ryo and other valuable things among the group. Kenshiki's dad told him to hide while this happened and he took cover under one of the wagons of the traveling camp. While the bandits kept demanding more and more stuff from the people among the camp, one of them happened to grab Kenshiki's mom. His dad was outraged by this and ran full speed at the bandit to protect his wife. Unfortunately, even though he was a skilled swordsman, he was outnumbered and after killing the first bandit, he was attacked by 3 others. He took two out, but the third of them finally got him, stabbing a kunai in his back, and slitting his throat. The sight was terrifying and Kenshiki could barely contain his scream of terror as this happened. The remaining bandits began just taking the stuff and killing anyone they thought was in their way or might go against them, as they did not want another of their number killed by someone who wanted to play hero. At this moment, one of the bandits found Kenshiki's hiding place, as he looked under a wagon for hidden loot. Their eyes met and Kenshiki got a good look at the man...it was the bandit who killed his father moments before. The man jumped back and threw a kunai at Kenshiki. He was seeing his short life flash before his eyes. As the kunai got close, he tried to roll out of the way from under the wagon but it was at such a angle, the kunai would hit him before he could escape. As he rolled out, the kunai stuck deep into his stomach. The pain was intense and he looked around. His father was dead, the camp was going up in flames and the people he knew his whole life were dying all around him. He could not take it, the sadness, the anger, it was overwhelming. At this moment, the world seemed to stop for a split second. All of a sudden, there were wierd waves all around the camp. It was too much to describe. Like small grey wire like waves went outward with every step, every word, and every movement. His eyes also had a vertical eclipse shape around them...what was happening? As he wondered, the man began to approach him after going around the chain of wagons. He had a kunai out once again, and he was ready to kill Kenshiki. Kenshiki looked around franticly for someone to help him, but there was no one left...they were gone. Next to him, he did see something...it was his fathers sword, still stuck in the bandit he jabbed it in last. There was no other choice, he had to fight or die by the hands of this...monster. He picked up the sword and pointed it at the man, which only made him annoyed and as a result he charged Kenshiki, aiming to end his life quickly. As he stabbed the kunai forward, Kenshiki moved his body to the right at the last second and thrust his fathers sword forward. The bandit dodged and threw a smoke bomb onto the ground and he positioned himself behind Kenshiki, ready to stab him in the back. The kunai made it 2 inchs away from his back when something happened...the sword was lodged in his chest...did he see the man behind him in the smoke? How did he do it? Was this the end? The bandit had these questions in his head along with others, but Kenshiki tore the sword upwards, slicing the bandit's chest and throat wide open. The man fell to the ground, he was dead but that was now not the only problem. Kenshiki's eyes returned to normal, and the waves in the air stopped suddenly. They were replaces by blurs in his vision, as the blood loss from the earlier wound was now taking effect. He could not save the rest of the camp, even if there is anyone left. All he could do now is survive, there was nothing left. He wondered into the forest in the surrounding area, hoping to escape. He eventually fell next to a tree, his vision blurring and him slowly fading out. As he took his last breaths, he wondered to himself what exactly happened back there with the wierd waves through the air. He did not have 3 minutes more before everything went black...it was the end, or so he thought. He woke up, afew days later. He was in a hospital...in a bed. As it turns out a Kusagakure Kunoichi found him as her two genin teammates and jounin sensei were coming back from a misson. The two quickly became friends, and Kenshiki was able to put what happened at the camp behind him or at least cope with it. He met Konomi and her team with more time after being released from the hospital. Within a month, he knew them quite well. One day, he had to confide in their jounin sensei about something. He seemed very knowledgeable so he seemed like a good person to ask. While he could put the raid on his camp in the back of his mind, there was still one thing he could not stop thinking about. He described what happened during the raid on his camp, including the wierd waves throughout the air. The jounin was intrigued and actually began to study the possibilitys. He eventually nailed down a source involving a old kekkei genkai that supposedly went extinct. The users of it seemed to slowly die out, and as some of them never even got the doujutsu, it was thought the gene that caused it went dormant for some reason. Apparently, the genetics of his mom and his dad reawakened the gene, thus giving him the doujutsu that was thought to be gone with history. Years later, he decided he needed to "find himself". He had been feeling something missing in his life, so he hoped he could find it somewhere else in the world. He left for yamagakure, hoping to find whatever he was looking for there. He thanked Konomi and the rest of her team for their kindness, but insisted he had to leave. He eventually came across a old abandoned mine in his travels. He actually ignored it untill a piece of the ground collapsed under him. He fell awhile, it was pitch black and he could not find anything to grab on to. One again, the strange eye activated in the stress and fear of this, and someone everything seemed bright as day, yet it was still pitch black. He pulled 2 kunai from his pocket and stuck them into a softer part of the wall, sliding down and slowing his descent to a halt after afew moments. He did not know how far he fell, he could not see the the opening for the hole he fell into expect a small speck of light in the distance. He literally stopped 10 feet above the ground and after catching his breath, he dropped down to the floor. On the floor however, he found something interesting. It was shining bright as day it seemed. It was a crystal, glowing a dark orange color and gave Kenshiki the chills just looking at it. It was uneasy to look at it, he did not know why. It was serene, yet terrifying. Powerfull, yet calm. It was explainable how it looked or it felt to be around. Kenshiki did not know how much time he had for the hole he made to be open, so in a rash split second desision, he took the crystal and put it into his pack and began using the kuani to jammed in the walls to climb back out. He made it out safely witht he crystal in tact. As it turns out, no one seemed to have info on this crystal no matter where he looked. This crystal would become a counterpart to many Otonami clan techniques later in time unknown to him. Many years later, Kenshiki was a proud husband and father at the age of 33. His kids had the same "birth defect" as him. These would be known as members of the second generation Otonami clan. He never had a chance to learn about his abilitys, maybe his kids would. Over time, they learned alot by themselfs, even after Kenshiki taught them what little he knew. At the age of 54, Kenshiki died due to heart failure and his remaining family greives, but time went on and his kids moved out on their own after a time. During this time, they came across a large area of land which seemed like there was heavy construction going on constantly. This turned out to be the village hidden in the mountains while it was barely started. They eventually met the first Yamakage Isamu himself where they were offered a spot of their own in the village, if they were to join the village. The siblings were already quite competent in battle and unlike their father, grew tired of wandering constantly so they agreed. Abilities and techniques. The Dosuugan: This is the doujutsu of the Otonami. When it is activated, they can "see" soundwaves thus giving them a constant echolocation effect. This lets them see in conditions that would normally not permit it, have a higher chance to dodge (As every movement would disturb the airwaves around said movement, thus causing a wave for the "sound sense".) and the ability to track someone via echo location. Dosuugan Stage one: The user would see the sound and air waves like grey wire sliding across the air. This would give them a limited 6th sense as every movement would send a wave around it telling him where something is or where it could hit. This however, is not nearly as invincible as it sounds at first. These waves do not travel nearly the speed of real sound, and if someone is fast enough could outrun the waves themselfs. Even if a person can sense the next movement, they could still be hit if they are slower then the opponent. This is only a moderate aid to keep up with someone slightly faster. The user would not only see the waves, but feel them as well. It would however would be the opposite of helpfull when used for the first time. Someone who used it for the first time, there would be so many waves and in so many places, it would be impossible to tell what is coming from where. This could however be overcome with extensive knowlage of sound and airwaves, or a high enough intelligence to learn the patterns quickly. Whether the user overcomes it or not, the more they use it the more they would learn the patterns of waves and become more proficient with using them as a proper sensing technique. This could at best keep on par with someone of 1.2 times the users speed. The eye gets a vertical ellipse shape around it as well. Dosuugan Stage 2: At stage 2, the sensing capibilitys of the Dosuugan are enhanced but only slightly. Thus, it is still worthless if someone if someone is much faster then you in the first place. This could help you keep on par with someone 1.5 times your speed at best. The user would now also have a passive echolocation going on around them as well when the Dosuugan is in use. This would let them see their surroundings, even if it was pitch black. This would however, only give them limited light similar to midnight The eye would not have a horizantal ellipse added to the vertical one. Dosuugan Stage 3: The final stage of Dosuugan. This allows for the most complicated Otonami clan moves to be used. This also enhances the user's sensing capibilitys, making it possible to stay on par with someone 2.0 times their speed. The user could now see in pitch black darkness and other sight obstructions light as bright as day to them. This also makes the user sensitive enough with their senses to use Hibikichi-no-jutsu. The eye would now have a circle around the edges of both Ellipses from before. Clan Jutsu Otobakuha-no-jutsu (Sound blast technique) Rank: D-A Description: The user preforms the proper hand seals, in order. After 4 seals are finished, the user will push or swing their "Konbuki" (The Konkubi would be explained below.) in the desired direction, causing a wave of sound to push forward, making physical force from the airwaves. This could be used defensively or offensively depending on the situation. a additional 4 seals are needed for each rank of power. The blast radius will also extend 2 times the amount of the blasts original diameter. The blast radius would knock people away with force depending on the rank. D-rank=3 foot diameter blast (6 foot radius for the blast) C-rank=5 foot diameter blast (10 foot radius for the blast) B-rank=7 foor diameter blast (14 foot radius for the blast) A-rank=10 foot diameter blast (20 foot radius for the blast.) Otokobushi-no-jutsu (Sound fist technique.) Rank: C-B Description: The user would need a point of sound or his Konbuki if it was small enough to hold with a single hand to make this work. The user would punch at their target and upon impact, would release a burst of sound, thus physical force from the airwaves at point blank. Depending on the rank and the psysical ability of the user, this punch could send someone flying backwards or even shatter bones if a direct hit was made. However, this jutsu relys heavily on the users Konbuki. If it is damaged, it might not work as well or even backfire on the user. Hibikichi-no-jutsu (Echo location technique) Rank:B Description: The user yells and unleashes a torrent of soundwaves. These will bounce around the area and come back to the user giving him a detailed mental vision of the surrounding area. This was meant as a high level tracking jutsu. There are two disadvantages however, one being the user "needs" to yell to make the proper amount of sound waves, thus it is not best for a stealth based misson. The other being this would only word in areas with alot of debre. The sound waves would not bounce around the area if there is nothing to bounce off from. Thus, this would be more suited for a enclosed enviroment (Caves, buildings, etc etc.) or a area with alot in it. (A forest, a village, etc etc.) If there is little or no surrounding objects, this jutsu would fail inevitably. The Otonami weapons, the Konbuki. The Konbuki is more of a general term for a brand of weapons then a single sort of them. Konbuki translates to "soul weapon" which is the basis forthe weapon idea. When a Otonami clan member is mature enough or proves they are, they are given the choice to make their own Konbuki. This was invented by the 2nd generation Otonami clan, using chucks of the crystal Kenshiki found when he was younger. As it turns out, the crystal was something quite rare. It could store chakra in mass amounts, no matter the size broken off it. This made the Konbuki creation process, where a Otonami clan member is given a piece of the crystal and told to hold onto it for the day. It will absorb the users chakra over the day, and grow into something custom for them using their own chakra. Once it has absorbed enough chakra, it would glow extremely bright, enough to hurt the eyes if prolonged eye contact was made. When this is done, it is to be brought back to the clan leader or someone that knows the process at least. They will then bring a large metal box around 8x8 feet out and put the crystal in it. The crystal would be much smaller of course, but it is for the end result of why it is so big. They will then place multiple seals along the box and put it above a fire where the crystal will slowly melt. The box would be seals off untill the process is done. After twelve hours, the person preforming the ceremony would do a extensively long set of handseals, before the final one if set. When this happens, the box would pop open, revealing the "Konbuki" inside. These would vary in shape and size depending on the user. This is because it would absorb the users chakra, and depending and what happened during the day and how it affected the person holding it, along with their chakra as a whole could change it to a completely different form. These would always take the form on a instrument or at least something that could make a sound, though the uses of how to make the sound could also vary between the shapes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So...that's my long ass application. To clarify in case some things were not clear enough, the Dosuugan and their clan as a whole already existed but the genetics behind it are very fragile. Depending on their parents, Otonami clan members may or may not have it. If the chance happens they do not have it, the entire gene goes dormant and they would have a low chance of reawakening it in future generations. The chance of this happening is slight though, so if the clan gets big enough the possibility of extinction would be gone. The clan went extinct when there were only 3 recorded people with the gene. As for the "sound sense" it may seem like god modding potential, but it is not. It does not assure victory against someone much slower or completely cancel the fact of someones speed is much greater then theirs. It is a supplementary and is only usefull if for keeping up with someone of a slightly greater speed. The users skill also plays a roll in it. A genin would have no chance keeping up with a jounin or a experienced chunin. Even if they could track the movements of someone, they would not have the reaction time for it. The eye would be worthless without the proper levels of reaction speed, skill, and intelligence to keep up with the eyes ability. Well, give me opinions people!!! Thanks for the comment. I am more then willing for negative criticism if someone has a base for saying what is wrong instead of saying "This is bad." "That is bad" etc etc. I do not think i described some things properly in the last post. First of all, the Dosuugan with just the basic idea increases the users reaction time and gives them a limited 360 degree view. It would be based on the movements on the opponent however, and in theory could be a disadvantage as well if i think about it. If someone knew the mechanics behind the Dosuugan and was fast enough, they could probably confuse the sensing system in the eyes, completely screwing over the person using it as they would be getting told all of the wrong signals. Would take someone a large amount faster then the user though to pull it off though. As for the Konbuki idea, i also feel i did not explain it enough. While the crystal is in the metal box, as said before it would melt slowly. The seals placed around the box would act as magnets in a way. They would push and pull the chakra infused crystal as it melts, though the variation and pattern depends on the chakra inside, thus giving the different shape and such. The crystal even though small, could stretch out for a large Konbuki or a small hand-held one, also depending on the chakra inside. The weapons made from this would be highly durable, though not invincible. A strong enough attack could crack, fracture, and even shatter the Konbuki with enough force. The final thing i forgot to mention was these would take the forms of a instrument, or instrument device. As said before, their shape, size, and ability would differ. One person could have a harmonica, one could have a giant ass guitar like instrument, one could have a very compact violin as well. This was however, originally made as a RP event for the clan. It is pretty much a right of passage within the clan to be given a Konbuki. One thing i also failed to mention is that holding the crystal was not only part of it, but a test of endurance. It would be draining the users chakra for awhile, so holding onto it a full day would be quite draining. The Otonami clan leader (Hopefully a alt of mine if this does win the contest =D)) would advise against going on a misson or training the day the crystal is in hand, as the chakra it drains is already quite high. Well, now that i made that clear, I am going to sleep for the night. I want more comments people! D=< |

I haven't fully read this yet, but my first initial comments are... We are, by this time, sick of Dojutsu. And you stole my echolocation thing from the snakes. >_> XD I'll take a closer look. |

Mmkay. I like the crystal weapon infused with the user's chakra that would be unique to the clan, but you forgot to mention how fragile or unbreakable the material is. The jutsu itself are really not that bad. They arn't OP'ed or anything, and they have valid explanations. The only issue I have is with the Dojutsu. It may not start off powerful, but as soon as you reach stage 2 it can be used to walk around things set in place to make sure people don't dodge every single attack. I liked the lengthy history, but then the esoteric details kind of bored me and made me not want to read anymore. In the future, don't make applications so long, use the right words at the right time instead of weighing it down with details that arn't important or ten words that could be summed up in three. |

While looking among other suggestions among the forum, there really is too many doujutsu suggestions. ![]() I am going to start working on a revamped Otonami clan and hopefully have it done by the end of the night. As of the moment, i consider the current application null and void. I have a extension on the idea to work out more uniqueness while cutting out a doujutsu as a whole. |
