Censorship in Thailand!

I've been living here for about ten years in Thailand and I know and have experienced censorship on Thai TV and occasionally in a movie but today I got extremely pissed. I finally found the time to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and the censors destroyed this movie. Every single slash scene was covered up/blotted out and that's basically the whole 2nd half of the movie. They also censored a bottle of Gin that a boy drank in the movie. They censored this movie to the point that it should have just been banned and I wouldn't have wasted money on seeing a poor version of it. I'd much rather have waited to see the uncensored version on DVD instead. It amazes me how you can watch the news or pick up a Thai newspaper and see real life tragedies. I've seen people beheaded, shot, and splattered all over the sidewalk on the news and in the newspaper in Thailand. Now that's real life deaths, violence, blood, and whatnot. This is theatrical and it doesn't even look real because it's not supposed to. It's kinda like a joke!

The biggest part that really gripes my ass is that the movie was rated NC17. Let me say that again it was RATED NC17! This means that no children under the age of 17 will be allowed into the theater no matter what. If children are not allowed into this movie then why the need to censor? Apparently if anyone sees something in a movie that they find undesirable then it needs to be censored. I think we should all say that we find movies with ghosts in them as undesirable. If we did that then over 80% of the Thai movies couldn't be released. This is just ridiculous and shows that Thailand has a lot of growing up to do. How about letting people who are considered adults decide what they feel is or isn't appropriate for them. I wasn't aware that people were forced to see this movie. Here I am thinking it was my choice that I decided to see this movie. Honestly, if people boycotted all of these movie theaters until they used the rating system effectively then maybe we'd see some results.

Whatever you do, DON'T GO SEE THIS MOVIE IN THE CENSORED FORM IT IS IN NOW!!! Wait for the uncensored DVD if you are really interested in it.

Hey, thx for the heads up, I'll jus download the un-censored version from the Internet. I'm still amazed when they censor the act of someone putting a cigerette to their mouth or a gun to their head on TV but will show the action leading to and after the fact.

Update on even more censored movies in Thailand. I just saw American Gangster today and parts of it were censored as well... I don't remember seeing this much censorship last year. I hope they have decided that we need more censorship... Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I feel very bad to hear this thing, coz in the movie I like to see all the things, violence, blood, kill, etc. It give the movie a bad taste to censored it. I get the thing about they trying to block these things from kids but they should focus on the main problem, kids should never be in this movie at the first place and the theater staff should take care of that. I hate to see things like this censored but violence things and sexual things in Thai movies and TV shows are still showing at home. They show girls that if you want to be cute you must speak bad about other people so you'll special, if you don't like someone just slap them or hired someone to kill, kidnap, rape them. Things like these are still showing in thai TV show, so before band and censured other movie look at our show and movies first.
