Parents reluctant to leave student accommodation

A university says that it is having to persuade overprotective parents to leave their children's student accommodation.

The University of the West of England says that a new feature of campus life is the parent overstaying their welcome by staying in the halls of residence.

University spokesman Keith Hicks says parents have been making themselves too comfortable in modern student halls.

"They say 'I'd like to live here'. The trouble is just a handful do," he says.

"We do our best to accommodate these mothers, but we do try to discourage. University is after all about independent living as much as independent learning, " he says.
