Britain was today able to claim a victory of sorts in the Miss World competition despite none of the UK girls lifting the crown. Relative unknown Kaiane Aldorino, representing Miss Gibraltar and therefore a British national, cast aside early favourite Miss Puerto Rico to win the prize in Johannesburg, South Africa. England’s entrant, Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge - dubbed “Combat Barbie” - was also vying for the prize yesterday along with Miss Scotland Katharine Brown, Miss Wales Lucy Whitehouse, and Miss Ireland Laura Patterson.
