A mother who rejected the idea of a traditional funeral was granted her dying wish - to be taken to the service on a double decker bus. Julie Waters told family spending her final journey in the back of a black hearse was her worst nightmare. So her family organised for Julie and a passenger-load of relatives to be driven to her final destination on a London bus. The pillar-box red double decker was decorated with ribbons and led by two funeral directors wearing top hats. It proved just the ticket for Julie’s family. Her civil partner, Ms Pratt, said the funeral suited her outgoing and fun-loving side. She said: ‘She was always at the centre of everything and was so much fun we thought it would be much more appropriate for her to travel with everyone like this. ‘She never fancied the whole black Limousine thing so we looked at how we could all travel to the funeral together. ‘The family didn’t like the idea of her being in a car on her own ahead of all the other cars either, so we came up with the bus idea.
