I know this is in the wrong section but it needs to be noticed, this is very important!

Okay, where to begin.

This week end I recieved a message from a friend on Bebo, saying that I was in a video and should watch it, the massage gave me the link and I stuipidly clicked it and was instantly swarmed by trojan viruses.

Later that day I also recieved a message from Paddy on TW with a similar message. After I demanded an explanation from my friend, I mailed Paddy back and asked him what the video link was and told him about the last one I'd been sent.

The last few day the hidden viruses went active and altered all my internet options and disabled connection.

Today, it was fixed and I went back to Bebo and my friend who sent me the contaminated video had sent me an angry message saying I'd sent her the virus-video and that she'd never sent anything to me.

Paddy had also replied to my message saying I was right about his link, it was a virus and his cousin or something had sent it to him and I shouldn't open it.

I have contacted Bebo, and hopefully they'll figure out what it is, but I've also recieved the same message from two friends on Facebook now, who never actually mailed me.

So if you get a message entitled generally in capitals and has one line of why you should watch the video with 'you in it' -- even from your friends, and gives a link. Don't click on the link and report it.

It's passed through you clicking it and then it'll contaminate you and sent out the message to all of your contacts. You need to warn your friends not to click on any video link like this immidiately!

My friend has this problem on MSN. While he's invisible, he'll send out instant messages that say things like "Hey look at this pic [link]". If you know you're not in any of their pics and they're sending you pics of you, ignore it.

It's not a picture link, it's a video, though, but it does work in the same way.

Apparnatly this one's been going about a week or so.

Yeah, I'm just saying there's different forms of scams like this. The way my myspace account was phished was that my friend sent me a weird message so I stupidly replied back like "...wtf is this." Next time I log in, I have a big "your account has been phished!" message on my log in page and I couldn't do anything with my account.

With that MSN pic link, if you click on it, your messenger starts sending out similar IMs when you're offline. I asked my friend about the pic he sent me and he had no idea of what he was talking about. Thank god I never clicked it.

Don't people have better things to do than design scams like this?

I agree with you Icey, the idiots who spend all year creating viruses and hackers need to get lives and stop causing misery for poor kids' computers. Seriously, if someone finds making things like that fun, they need serious help. *Glares*

Heh, well that's where I disagree with you. I know a few hackers who are white hats - that is, they hack to help with computer problems - and they're the ones that got me interested in the hacking culture and how viruses are made...it's actually pretty interesting. There's just that thin line that bugs me, the one that you can't cross - and that's spreading viruses to intentionally harm. My friend has sent me a few prank applications he made, like one that makes your CD drive open every time you close it...but there's a big difference between that and something that destroys a computer from the inside out. I agree that people who create viruses to harm need to get a life, but learning how viruses are made and how hacking works helps protect you against it. :]

I meant the type of virus that hacks into your computer and buries itself whist it does damage and the people that make that type of virus. I know that hackers aren't always bad, but the people that make viruses generally are, especially the really horrible viruses like trojans. :(

Hehe, I know. :]

My friend's computer was attacked by trojans recently and it slowed it way down to where she couldn't do anything with it...she had to take it to a computer repair shop. Real expensive to fix. Eww.

You guys keep your computers safe. I suggest keeping your anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware...all those type of programs up to date. If you're watching a movie or something, run a scan. :]

This happened to my friend on facebook. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's on almost every applications.
