In an effort to attract more users to Writer's Realm I have created a Writer's Realm Blog. You can view it HERE. Obviously there isnt much on it yet. This topic is to be used as a brainstorm topic. Allyson is already going to become one of the authors of the blog, and IceDragon also if she decides she wants to. I will administrate the blog, but the only thing I can do that author's can is change the visual appearance of the blog and add gadgets. I'll change whatever anyone wants, as long as I dont completely disagree with it. Now here is my "American Dream" so to speak for the blog. Enough people visit the blog on a regular basis to provide a slight income via google adsense. This money could then be used to host Writer's Realm constests, with the results posted on the blog. Now if I were a browser on the internet, I would be attracted to a site where I could win money. So when people find out about the contests, more people will visit the blog and in turn visit writer's realm. As more people come there will be more money=more contests=more people etc. We could then have awards such as "Top Writer" or "Top Poet" of the month, and create even more prizes. Also, if enough money is made, we could pay to have our own domain name for this forum witch will also allow google bots to link to the forums more often. Now we need to find out what to put on the blog. We need to have at the very least a weekly post, but of what? A story made by members posted exclusively on the blog? Contests without cash prizes until there is enough traffic? Writing tips? We need to think of something that people would be interested in following a blog for. So post ideas here! I like the currnet theme and layout of the blog, but I think it could be improved. If you find any layouts you like, show them to me so I can try switching them. Also, the site name is currently just "Writer's Realm Blog". Not very catchy. Unfortunatley people do judge a book, or in this case a blog, by its cover, so help me brainstorm some better names. That ends this massive topic! Post ideas here and lets get this blog started! :shakefist:

I think maybe we can put updates, contest info and maybe a sneak peak of someone's story (like we all agree on something from the sneak peak forum, maybe). And hey, I'd love to help out! :D As for the Writers Realm Blog thing...why not keep it to something similar like Writers Realm? The "blog" part is unneeded, since it's obviously a blog, but Writers Realm is a catchy enough name. Unless anyone else has any ideas because honestly, I'm bad with naming things xD And for the google ad sense, that's a good idea, too...but I'll leave that up to you. That thing confuses me to no end -_- Also, I'm on Firefox and I have all ads blocked...so the same is likely with other Firefox users. Fair warning, lol. But wow, you've definitely put a lot of thought into this. I'll support anything that will help this site out...I just don't want it to turn this place completely into a competitive writing community for monetary prizes. But if we could lure in some people with money...hehe :P

I think it should just be Writer's Realm. :) And about the money...I have no idea what to think about that. I don't really like the idea of people joining Writer's Realm just to win money...I created WR so writers everywhere could share their work and be able to chat and hang out with other writers, so I don't know about winning money, unless it's a one a year thing. I'm sorry, but I just don't know about this. I do, however, think it would be a good idea to have our own domain name. I'll have to check how much that is. Yes, you have put a lot of work into this, Mythic. Thanks. :)

Those people probably wouldnt be the best people. So I don't know either. I guess that we can just see how that goes, we can't do anything like that now anyway. Glad you guys liked it! If you want to become an author IceDragon just PM your email and I will register you to be an author of the blog. Oh and about the firefox, the ads aren't popups, they are on the blog themselves (just like the ads on this site just without pictures). Unless firefox blocks those too? If so tell me how lol some sites have waaaay too many ads. EDIT: I just though of somethings we could put on the blog. Tell me what you think! 1. The Monthly (or other annual) Community Story: Every month a different member of WR would write a story. However, there is a catch. Other members of WR would suggest themes and guidlines for the story that the writer would have to follow. Ie: It has to take place on a beach; it must have the theme of betrayal; you cannot use the word 'the' at all. Then the writer would give it to me, Allyson, or another author of the blog to post. The story would be SHORT, as in no more than 2 pages. People who see the blog would want to go to WR to register and suggest, but in order to suggest a member must have 20 posts. This is to prevent people from just joining WR, suggesting, and then leaving. I like this idea because it will attract people who want to read the work of others. It also will bring people who want to write a story, but don't really know how. They can give the ideas for the story, somebody else would write it, and they would gain experience by examining how the story was written. 2. Weekly Found Poems: A found poem is a poem composed of a limited number of words from a list. Once a week, in the WR forums a list of random words picked out by anyone would be posted. I would say there should be 30 words, but only 25 could be used. I am not sure what comes after that, maybe everyone who wanted to would write the poems, and the best would be posted on the blog. Or all of them would be posted on the blog (if not many people do it). A link to WR would be posted to view the rest of the poems, and people would have to become of WR member to read the other found poems. All found poems would be posted in the form of replies to the topic that listed all of the words to avoid clutter. I personally love found poems, because I find it hard to think of topic to write about. With found poems, you already have your words, you simply have to group them together in a poetic way. This is good for people who have trouble starting something, and it will show how poetic people can be by removing the factors of vocabulary, length, etc. Now also, I dont know what section this blog related stuff would go in, maybe a sub forum in poetry and short story sections or something. I wouldnt want the poetry section cluttered with weekly found poems. Those are my two ideas, hope someone likes them! I am throwing a ton of stuff out here only because I will forget if I dont. I had a third idea but I already forgot it! :( Anyway, I have a ton of "creative energy" (hehe) right now so that is why all my posts lately are giant. Tell me if what you think! It could use a few changes, but I think the "Poem of the week" or something like that would be really good for the site. Would we post it on there, or would we give a link to the poem here. Also, maybe we should ask the writers if they would be okay with that. :) If they're not, we should ask them to say so in their post. And if we do post it on the site, maybe we should take off the others and add the new poem each week, or something.

I agree. If I were a user just wanting to read the poems and stuff, we shouldnt make them register. So we can encourage them to register so they can make the poems to be posted. I like that picture idea, that will definitely be used. It could be called Get the Picture, the found one could be called Found it. Haha I thought of another idea, just brainstorming, tell me what you think: Creative Impulse: A theme/topic is given. The writer will make a brief story or just describe it. Say the theme is memories, they could make a story of a girl who lost her memory, or an essay type thing of why memories are important or something. Best Review of the Month What is says, just to show people how meaninful WR can be. Could have best Poet, Author, etc. They would be interviewed with questions such as "when did you start writing, etc" We need enough stuff to have something at least every other day to keep people interested. We cant only have contest type stuff, so ideas more more!

We could post a link to a store to buy this book we all liked, and if people buy the book through the link we get a % of it. Even if we dont do that, still a book suggestion post would be good too.

While all of this sounds really cool, I also don't want to over do it. I don't want there to be a "best thing of the month" for everything, if you know what I mean. Also, IceDragon and I were thinking about having a monthly newsletter, but since we have the blog, maybe I could just post the newsletter on the site. What do you guys think?
