Long periods of time without writing?

Long periods of time without writing?

Observer of all Posts: 2,337 Group: Root Administrator Member #1 Joined: Jan 29, 2008	Do you ever have those times? Maybe you have writers block, or maybe you've just lost interest for a few months? Did you ever feel like you've let people down by not writing, or maybe letting yourself down?

Writes 50 Words Per Chapter Posts: 276 Group: Writers Member #81 Joined: Feb 21, 2009	All of the time. Write now I'm having a week or so without writing (one of my longest periods without writing :P) because I'm waiting for my book to arrive in the mail about plotting and structuring a novel, and then use it to structure my current novel. I don't like periods without writing. I try to write every day, even if it's just freewriting.

Crayon Posts: 1,216 Group: Global Moderators Member #10 Joined: Mar 23, 2008	After Nano I kept up the pace of writing bits everyday and then that sort of fizzled out and I did barely anything until I got my laptop after Christmas, but only recently have I actually started to write tons again. I like the story I'm writing at the moment, I like the way I don't know everything and it all sort of unfolds in pieces and everything begins to link up while I write. :) I hate long periods without writing. As a preson. talking isn't my thing as I can't explain myself very well, so writing is a sort-of outlet. Without writing I feel quite . . . flat, is the only word I can think of. My characters and the plot bug me constantly, during lessons at school, my mind follows them and listens to them whinge at me to write, so eventually I do. My writers' block periods don't lat long as I just write it out of my system and even if what I write is rubbish, no one will read it unless I let them, so it doesn't matter anyway. :)

Gasp! Posts: 63 Group: Writers Member #19 Joined: Apr 23, 2008	I sometimes go a couple of weeks without writing, if I've been really tired/loaded down, or if I've just undergone NaNoWriMo. I think the longest time I haven't written anything was most of November last year, after I made wordcount. I don't like not writing. I feel lazy, and it messes up my prose. I wouldn't say it feels like I'm letting myself down, just that I'm slacking.

Same here, and sometimes I'll feel like since I COULD be writing, but I'm NOT, it doesn't feel right, and I sort of feels guilty for not using that free time to write. I guess I don't really have anything else to add to this topic.

Future Private Investigator! Posts: 96 Group: Writers+ Member #36 Joined: Jul 23, 2008	Ooh, I do. So I can get into long periods of non-writing time. It's because writing is only one of my hobbies, I have lots, so I don't always need writing to make me happy. Though I have noticed it brings me a different joy than the rest of my leisures. Hmm. It seems like I tend to spit out about 200-300 pages worth of writing which rarely makes it to the computer, and then I stop for a while only to pick it back up again.
