Been pondering this for a while, could be something. If someone writes a good post (funny, good crit, expert piece etc) then why not have the ability to give some reputation? Again, delete this if I'm bein' ignorant and don't notice the other piles of threads discussing this. Have a code, and all.

| Everybody loves the universe. If you can look past the black holes, the rogue asteroids, the gym teachers, and that paper boy who keeps throwing your magazines into the bushes, it's a simple place most of us can call a happy home. It's a good thing. However, even the obviously non-sentient universe has a sense of irony. You see, the universe is going to end. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not 10120 years from now, but it will happen. One of the ways science predicts our inevitable demise is by pissing off God. But that's another story. Instead, another way that science predicts the universe will cease to function is through the "heat death of the universe" theory. | |

I've thought doing that in the past, and I've even tried out some reputation codes on my test board, but it never really worked for me...but I guess we could try it...would anyone else like to try this? |

Would this be like, a "being a good forum member" type of thing? |

^ Think of it as a bit of a reward system. Although a lot of the time it could also be used to boost friendships, or divide people. *shrug* An example would be the rep system we use at the Hallow Life - here's mine http://thehallowlife.com/reputation.php?uid=2 I think a rep system might work well here :] |

Let the almighty power of the poll decide whether it shall or shall not exist. (here) |

That's what I'm afraid of...but I still think it's a good idea, since it would be useful for things like finding out who one of the best critics is, or someone could give someone a reputation boost as a prize for a story or poem that won in a contest. :) I'll vote yes. I have a rep system on SI but it doesn't work the way it's intended to. I thought it could be somehting like for thanking people who've critiqued your work or something, but it's just used for everything. Rep's good in some ways, but the zetaboards version doesn't really work, on bigger sites, where you can rep a post rather than a user, is better because then the person actually has to do soemthing good in a post rather than just being someone you know in real life or something. You could test it, that won't hurt, but it's not as great as it seems and does kind of divide people. |

(crap, this is a retype of my reply because I accidentally hit the back button. stupid meeee *cry*) You know, I've never seen a ZB rep system. All I've seen is on myBB boards. So it'd be interesting to see it here. Yeah, Allyson, I've seen the rep system abused for personal grudges. My rep got knocked down at THL due to a fight on another website. And like Lykaios said, the rep system won't necessarily be used for what it's intentional use is. I've seen reps given out at THL for things like friendship or stuff like, "you seem pretty cool." So, if it is used, don't expect it all to be for critiques, or respect. I am voting yes though, just out of curiosity to see what a rep system on a ZB forum would look like *epic fail* XD |

It works a lot better if the rep is given for good/bad posts by a button on the post, like on the bigger sites. Random ones like on SI and WW can be abused more easilly. |

What if we had rules for the reputation system that you couldn't give someone a rep unless they did something, like gave you a critique, or helped you if you had a question, or starting a topic that got lots of replies?
