Stereotypes; As portrayed in media

This is a semi-writing discussion topic, but I put it in here instead of the Chat House. (Allyson and Icey, feel free to move it if you think it should go there).

There are a lot of books out there that have cliques, the popular girls, the jocks, etc, but the groups aren't so distinguished in real life, are they? The teenagers are almost always either smoking who knows what, having one-night stands, or super suck-ups, you know. And then there's the racial and religion stuff. What do you think are the most common stereotypes found in media?

I think this is in the right place, since it could go with either media, or books.

In all the books I've read about girls who are in High School, everyone is just so well dressed, and they have like the best clothes, and everything. It's kind of annoying actually.

I agree with Allyson (her last comment, I mean). That happens at my school.

Then there's Jocks, Nerds, and the kids who don't fit anything.

Does it ever feel like people, especially our age, are trying to fit themselves into these categories? It's almost as if you can't be good at math if you're good at basketball/have an entire wardrobe composed of dark colours and be bubbly.. or you're automatically a weirdo.

Again, it's probably because if people watch more movies and read more books like that, they'll think that those are the only categories that they can fit into. I think it's sad, really. :\

Same here. If only people could just be friendly to each other without cliques and stuff.

What group do you best fit into?? I am almost a nerd, just because I'm one of the smartest kids in my class (trying to be modest ;) ), but I don't act nerdy. I also have sharp wit and a dry sense of humor, which puts me slightly in the class clowns. I don't know. I am:

Nerd: 30%
Jock: 5%
Tomboys: 15%
Class Clowns: 15%
Boy-crazy Girls: 5%
Everyone knows who they are but they're not cool: 10%
"Cool" Girls: 2%
Nobodies: 15%
Delicate Girls: 3%

Many of these groups mix. The "Cool" girls are often the Boy-Crazy ones and the Delicate ones. Tomboys and Jocks mix. Nerds and Nobodies are friends. Everyone is mixed at my school, but not too mixed. Nerds and Nobodies keep their distance from "Cool" kids. Tomboys and Delicate girls who haven't touched a ball in their life don't really talk to each other.

Do you have lots of stereotypes at your school or very few??

Well, I'm Home Schooled, but I'll try my best to figure out what I am. :P Although I'm not like some of those families who where long jean skirts and can't do a bunch of stuff... (no offense to any of those kinds of families!!)

Anyway...

Nerd: 5%
Jock: 10%
Tomboys: 30%
Class Clowns: 30%
Boy-crazy Girls: 5%
Everyone knows who they are but they're not cool: 12%
"Cool" Girls: 5%
Nobodies: 2%
Delicate Girls: 1%

I just copied bjullie's and filled in what I thought I was. I think bjullie got it from a website though.
