Yep! Today we're going to be discussing book covers.

So, what kind of illustrations on the covers of books do you like? Do you like pictures or people, drawings of people, pictures of scenery, something flashy, something dark, something where you can't tell what it is...?

(By answering this you will be helping me out a lot!)

The cover of the book means almost everything to me...along with the title.
I tend to like interesting covers that have something happening - an action illustration if you will. I probably would never pick up a book if the covers showed a girl just sitting in a chair, unless the girl was tied up or had a sword pointed at her chest. I think that comes from the fact that I love action and fantasy. :P I also like vivid covers...not pictures that look like they had been sketched with a colored pencil.

What about you?

I agree with you. I like action covers like Harry Potter.
I don't like covers that have pictures of real people.
I really like covers that show an element of the story: Lionboy has a lion on the cover, The Land of Elyon, Book 4, Stargazer, shows Alexa in the hot air balloon with Abaddon crawling next to her and the pillars in the background. (I haven't finished it yet)
I also like the Warriors covers, so I like covers with well-drawn or painted animals on them.

I actually thought the HP covers were rubbish and simplisticly boring.

I like all sorts of covers, I won't go for a book if it's cover is boring (unless I know it's good).

I'm reading this book at the moment. It's really good, but the cover attracted me to it. (It comes in three colours, pink like the picture, orange or green) Inside the letters there's pictures that only mean something when you read the book, the back page is also awesome, but I can't find a picture of that.

Yeah, it's great. :)

It's about a gril called Jem who sees a number when she looks into people's eyes; which she learns is the date of their death. Because of this she doesn't like to get close to people but she meets a boy at her school with three months to live and develop an uneasy friendship. After some trouble with the police they go to London together and while they're queueing for the London Eye, Jem notices that everyone around her has the same number, the date of that day.

I won't tell anymore because I'll spoil it, but it's a great story and a very interesting idea. I haven't finished it yet but I have no idea how it could end. :)

LOL, I'm not a fan of pictures that look completely drawn. I would count the cover Lykaios posted too "drawn" for me. But other than that, it's pretty cool. I like minimal covers, too.. keep it simple.

Oh right. I thought you meant drawn as in with pencils and crayons. :P

What type of covers do you like, then?
