The Patokafus Trilogy (or book one at least)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patokafus-Trilogy-Bk-Book-Goldstone/dp/1434373754/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233356819&sr=8-1

Use the 'look inside' feature to see what I mean. If you've ever played Final Fantasy 12, you might pick up that it's the same story, down to the rats, just with painful grammar and spelling and sticky caps-lock buttons. :P

Lyk: I'm with you, but the kid's what, 13? But what I really want to know is how he managed to self publish a book.. and get it on Amazon.

EDIT: Actually, I shouldn't be saying "kid"; I'm no older.. but you know what I mean.

The point of self-publishing is that it's just that. You publish your book yourself.

No one has to read it first, there's no long wait for a reply, no rejections, no insentive for improvement. It costs loads too.

I've checked out the company he did it with and funnilly it's in America which makes no sense as he lives in England, I mean he could at least get the right country. They offer an editing service, but evidently he skipped that part and went straight to novel submition after paying over £600.

So, effectively, self publishing allows anyone to publish anything. You could publish a book that contained only the letter 'h' and get it on amazon, they don't care what they sell, money's money.

It's sad really, because he obvioulsy loved writing enough to finish a story, evn if it was plagiarised and without the aid of spellcheck, he could have stayed at one fo the forums he joined and developed his writing. Even if he does now, which I doubt, no professional publisher would take him seriously with that book to his name. He only published for vanity.

Oh, I forgot to mention that he joined YWO and YWS. Hehe on the latter he claimed to be like Jesus. Google 'patokafus trilogy' most of the results are pages from TW, YWO and YWS.

Something like this, you mean? http://www.teenagewriters.com/forum/showpost.php?s=8e0ace952b4b67408c280b77fd53bca3&p=379352&postcount=54

Ahaha. This guy amuses me to no end. Actually, thanks, Lykaios, you provided a perfect example of what not to do: self publish and take criticism with such...ah, grace.

(Nice to see your posts in the same thread, lol...)

Hehe, yeah, we've been talking about it ever since someone posted a review of it. :)

I think Bowie quoted that from YWS, but yeah some of his replies to any sort of criticism are quite hilarious. I posted a polite-ish review on his site in the guestbook and told him to join a writing site and learn more about writing before publishing any more books but he just deleted the guestbook. :P

The worst book I've read has to be The Snow Walker trilogy. I read it as one book; the whole thing made up one fairly large novel. It was terrible. First, the main characters (who do nothing!) are sent to the far north, where there's this monster, but the monster is only a twelve year old boy that's harmless. Then they go back south to confront the villainess. The villainess leaves of her own accord. The dialogue was terrible, and that's just the first book in the series. I don't remember the second or third, partly because I fell asleep in the middle of them.

BLARGH.

That Patokafus kid is also BLARGH. They seemed to think that criticism meant praise.

Lykaios: Oh my word!! That boy doesn't even have periods in his dialogue...That's just sad. I read about two pages, and that was enough to show me what the rest of the book was probably going to be like.

And did you guys read the bio in the back? Quote: The idea just suddenly just popped into my head and I started putting my ideas to paper. Yikes...now that's freaky...

And the book that you mentioned Tempest, well...that sounds REALLY annoying. :P

The worst book I've ever read is called Lessons from a Dead Girl...it's about a girl who's friend is a lesbian and she's trying to make her friend a lesbian, and they kissed in the closet when they were little because the friend said they were "practicing" for when they were older and married, but then the friend keeps wanted to do it when they're older. It's really horribly written, not to mention that it's in present tense, which I don't like.

'Nuff said!

The worst I ever read has to be "The curious incident of the Dog in the Night-time"
Had to read it for school, only reason I ever did.
