Have you ever thought of getting one? Do you already know what you want yours to be?

Yes, but I swear we've already discussed this before here . . . Or maybe I'm just sieve-brained?

Anyway, my pen-name is Lykaios Maddigan. (shhhhh)

Lykaios is my name everywhere so I got attached to it and any other first name but my own seems stupid. And Maddigan is one of my favourite surnames because it has a nice colour which goes well with both Lily and Lykaios.

I wouldn't want to use my real name if I ever got published because I don't like attention and there are certain people in my life it'd be easier to live with if they didn't know I write or what I write.

Also, my surname is a horrible colour and doesn't look good on the front of a book. Perhaps when I'm old and wrinkly with 100s of books to my name I'll put my real name on my very own Wiki page or something?

Same here! I wouldn't want all the attention, like if I was shopping or something, and then someone saw my name when I was signing something, and then them be saying, "Hey, I know who you are!" Yeah, not going to happen.

I was thinking at first of something like Lilliva Dast...I really like the last name, but I'm still not sure about the first. What ever it is, it's going to be something that I made up, since I love making up names.

So if anyone needs ideas for if they want a pen name, I'm here! :P

I wouldn't use a pen name because then if I ever got one of my novels published, I would be able to brag in the face of all the people who ever doubted me.

Ah, but pen names are great fun. All secret and mysterious.

I reckon that Lemony Snicket and Pseudonymous Bosch are the same person. Snicket is horribly illusive and this new guy, Bosch, has a similar writing style and also uses deterrance to get people to read his books . . .

Though Daniel Handler [snicket] hasn't told anyone he is this new guy. If he isn't him then Bosch must be having fun. :P

That's something that I've always been debating about...If I had a pen name however, I would make sure to tell all my friends and family. :numberone:

But what if he was like some of those other authors who adore a book so much that their writing style is like the author that they love?

Then he'll be laughing somewhere at how convincing he is and how he hasn't busted his alias yet. :P

Ah, I think it'd be fun to do something like that.

Stephen King had a pen name once. He wanted to see if people bought his books for his name or because they liked the story so he got a really boring alias and published a book under it. He was rumbled though, he has too many fans that spy on him or something. :P

Never really thought about pen names, just screen names I've used to publish my work. Back when I posted on fanfiction.net, I was IceDragon'08, on fictionpress I was IceKitsune. Then I just went for IceDragon08 or Icey.

Pen names are useful, though. Ann Rice published several explicit novels under the names Anne Rampling and A.N. Roquelaure. Maybe if you wanted to be anonymous with what you're publishing, a pseudonym would be useful.

I think if I were to choose a pseudonym, the name Melina comes to mind. I've always loved that name xD However, I don't have a surname for Melina. Which isn't helpful. Lol.

Why not steal a surname? Nobody would no unless it was a really wierd one?

I took Maddigan from Maddigan's Fantasia by Margaret Mahy, which is one of my favourite books. :)
