"A role-playing game (RPG) is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players can improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games" ie, several people create characters, and to specific worlds, stories or settings, they 'play' a sort of game. It's basically like a story in a way - you write your own characters, and depending on the reactions and actions of other players, the story can take you anywhere. That's what makes roleplaying so addictive - everytime you play, something different happens, and you can never guess what will happen next, only help influence it by taking your characters and interacting with other characters. Okay, that's the dictionarial explanation of a roleplay - all very nice, but one must have a successful sign-up for potential rp-ers to join your rp, right? In your sign-up, you have to be clear what it is about. On the other hand it's no use writing a whole book about it becasue rp-ers don't want to read too much to be joining an rp. You have to find a balance: clear and simple, but it gives the right idea through. Remember, you might have the whole picture in your head, but others don't, so they need some guidance. The best way to start, is to give this information about the rp: - The name of it - What age is it happening in (like the Middle ages, Post Apotoliptic or modern day) - The story behind/of it (kind of like a storybook opening but not too long) - What kind of people / creatures does it involve Next, you need to let your rp-ers know a few things and what you need of them, e.g. Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Background: Skilled at: Other: Colour of Speech: Sometimes you might add something like what powers they have or whatever else. It's basically just to let you and others know who/what/how each character is so they will know how to react to them and get a better picture. Each sign-up information is different for each roleplay. Speaking of pictures, these are allowed for your characters - just don't make them too big and if you're unsure of how to upload them, got to the topic and check it out. As for the "colour of speech" thing, it just makes it easier to spot which character is talking, especially if it's a long post (also try to keep these at a minimum if you can). There are a few million colors to choose from, so choose away! Just remember it is best to choose a color that no one else has. So enjoy creating your roleplay sign-up and have fun roleplaying! Remember there's a section (Roleplay premordial soup) where you can ask other users of your ideas for roleplays before making them official. |
