Actions of the Prussian Government The Government of Prussia has set up contact with the governments of Portugal, the Ottoman Empire and Austria. These three countries have agreed to provide food stuffs for the peopleof Prussia who are starving. The distribution of foodstuffs will be left to the villages themselves. They should -if they are in desparate need of food or planting seed- come to the nearest large town where they will order food at officies specialy set up for this. These offises will then procure the foodstuffs and send them to the village. Every village may send one representative. The food transports will be guarded by cavarly while they are brought to the villages in need. (OOC: Does this sound like it would work, if not please tell me.) |

August 1845 Foodstuffs will be stockpiled in big cities and towns, from where every representative of a town/city can order food if in need. The stockpiles will come from Hungary, Portugal, Austria and the Ottoman Empire. When the towns purchase the food they do so on a loan which they have to pay back to the government. The loans are however, low and can be paid back on quite long term. From August onwards this system is operative. |

March 1846 The system used last year was quite successful, and will remain in place. It is hoped that the disease which ruined the potatoes last year will disappear, but it is thought unlikely. In addition it was interesting to see that some new foods were introduced to Prussia. Dried fruits came with some of the food imports from countries such as the Ottoman Empire, and Pears from other southern nations. The Government is looking into these new crops to see which one can be produced in Prussia to reduce the reliance on potatoes. Edited by Prussia, May 26 2010, 12:34 PM.

July 1846 The Prussian government has made 2,735,000 Thaler available for the creation of soup kitchen in big cities, where the failure of crops will be felt most hardly. Everyone who is in dire need can come to the kitchens to receive a bowl of soup once a day. They will go into operation in two and a half months, when it is expected that the famine will start to be felt. The soup kitchens will be guarded by Feld Jager and normal police.
