Friedrich Fröbel has been working on a project to educate Prussia's young children and allow them productive play and activity. The Play and Activity Institute, which Frobel had founded in 1837 in the village of Bad Blankenburg has become successful, and Frobel has fondly adopted the name 'Kindergarten' (Children's Garden) for the little children's educational and activity program. It is Frobel's dream that the teaching of young children will catch globally and allow for a more intelligent and advanced generation. Frobel has designed the educational play materials known as Froebel Gifts, or Fröbelgaben, which included geometric building blocks and pattern activity blocks; this is utilized in the newly formed Kindergarten to stimulate the minds of youngsters and help them recognize construction, patterns etc. |

1849 Preschools have been constructed in all big cities. This was made possible by the large increase of funds several years ago. It is hoped that these institutions will make the literacy levels in Prussia even higher. |
