Continued prosperity helped the Democratic administration somewhat, but President Van Buren has proved less popular than his predecessor and party support outside New England has dropped accordingly. Senate Election Democratic Party: 32 seats (-3) Whig Party: 20 seats (+3) House Election Democratic Party: 128 seats (+0) Whig Party: 106 seats (+6) Anti-Masonic Party: 6 seats (-1) Conservatives: 2 seats (+2) Nullifier Party: 0 seats (-6) Independents: 0 seats (-1) |
Embassy of the United States of America ![]() "For more than half a century, during which kingdoms and empires have fallen, this Union has stood unshaken. The patriots who formed it have long since descended to the grave; yet still it remains, the proudest monument to their memory." - Zachary Taylor | |
