January 1841![]() The Potsdamwerke percussiongewehr M1841 After Ottoman inquieries, Prussian scientists rifled the percussionmusket. They found that the barrel remained structurally sound after the rifling had been added to the weapon. In addition 15cm were removed from the barrel making the rifle shorter and lighter. Also a extra band and more screws was added to make the rifle stronger. These additions have made the rifle exccelent for special units such as skirmishers and marines. July 1847 The Prussian army is slowly changing its doctrine. This change first hit the artillery, who will receive a new manual the coming year. In the same school of thought, the General Staff is looking into ways most effectively utilising the new Needle gun. The huge increase of fire-power of the normal soldier have now theoretically made it possible for the whole army to function as Jager units do now. In the skirmishing role. Some theorists argue that this is the way forward, but many do not agree. No doubt the Jager units will now be so much more effective, and it is good that Prussia increased the numbers of Jagers in each Division several years ago. But they argue how will the army win any battles if it no longer has the shock effect created by massing units together and using charges or very close volley fire to break the enemies back. Together with implementation of a field medical service, there have been proposals to completely overhaul the number of engineers serving with the Prussian Army. Going even further, people have started voicing the need for special communication troops. |
